It's slow around here, so I figured I'd present this question to facilitate some discussion...

If/when the Pels get their own D-League affiliate where would you want it to be located and what would you want the name of the team to be called?

I'd like Lafayette since I live here, but the ideal location is Baton Rouge due to the facilities they have there.

I'd want it to be The Capital City Krewe or the Capital City Pelicans

I think Biloxi/Lafayette make the most sense to expand the local foot print, but for naming purposes I prefer the Baton Rougarous.

You don't want your DLeague team competing with LSU Basketball.

I agree ATL, but in terms of logistics BR makes the most sense with the River Center...Lafayette only has the Cajundome really or Blackham Coliseum - with UL basketball and other events it would be hard with scheduling

I'd probably be okay with where they would locate.

Jackson, Mobile or Pensacola all make more sense IMO

Getting Fox Sports NO on the local cable providers is probably a factor too. FSNO isn't going to just give it away for free, they need to go to a market where they can convince the local cable companies to pay for the lowest rated broadcast in the NBA.

That's a good point. As is thinking about logistics of getting players to and from the team quickly. I know charters, etc. But you want to get them there in a timely manner for meetings, shootarounds, etc.

In that vain...Lafayette, Baton Rouge, or Biloxi make the most sense to me.

I do hope that one day we can increase our local television footprint - We have good guys on the TV but the presentation is so bleh

I don't know if it's all Fox Sportses, but I do believe the stuff we have is repackaged hand me downs the other Fox Sports in the regions use like the Mavs and Spurs. The pre and half time show comes out of Dallas most of the time IIRC. So I would assume we're stuck with that.

Shreveport/Bossier. They have the arena and we need that part of the state to pay attention to the Pels and not the Mavericks or nobody at all.

As far as the name. they had an arena team called the Battlewings about 10 years ago. They could go back to that. Shreveport Battlewings.

Flying is not the difficulty. They'll never need a guy night of. It's about expanding the viewership and fan base. Shreveport could do that. As could Biloxi or Jackson. Ideally you want fans who can not only watch but also come to games. Biloxi is possible for that.

Quail, I agree.

Biloxi also fits their push of being on the Gulf Coast and all the restoration projects and societies they are a part of. It's a large enough city to handle the team etc and has entertainment venues (gambling) for after game festivities. I just don't like that it is not in Louisiana.

it wouldn't be too bad IMHO.

Red Claws-Celtics 2hr drive
Bayhawks-Magic REALLY far, preivously it was philly/cleveland and that is a 6.5 and 2hr drive respectively
Skyforce-heat REALLY far
Mad Ants-Pacers 2hr drive
Drive-Pistons 2.5hr drive
Energy-Grizzlies really far
Vipers-Rockets 5 hours
Bighorns-Kings really far
Warriors-Warriors 2hr drive

some are close, some are pretty far in itself so shreveport could be a legit spot, you grab the attention of monroe/south AR too

With all respect, locating a team in north La wouldn't be smart

It's not about being within state. It's a pro franchise. I could definitely see Pensacola. Big market for local attendance and really expands tv market.
Pensacola probably better market for tv than NO so cable contracts for pels and D league would work for all concerned. I would try to make the deal for pensacola.
