Has any actor had a better batting average than John Cazale?

Only had 8 screen credits before cancer took him, but they included:

The Godfather
The Conversation
The Godfather II
Dog Day Afternoon
The Deer Hunter

And he was nailing Meryl Streep.

"His final film, The Deer Hunter (1978), was filmed whilst he was ill with cancer. He was in a relationship with his co-star, Meryl Streep, whilst filming The Deer Hunter (1978), whom he met when they both appeared in the New York Public Theater's 1976 production of Shakespeare's Measure for Measure.

Controversy occurred during the filming. While the studio was unaware of his condition, the director, Michael Cimino, knew about it. As Cazale was evidently weak, he was forced to film his scenes first. When the studio discovered he was suffering from cancer, they wanted him removed from the film. His co-star and girlfriend, Meryl Streep, threatened to quit if he was fired. He died shortly after filming was completed."

I thought it was only 6 features...every one nominated or won best picture.

Of course not.

And regardless of his credits, he was a really good actor.

And to increase his batting average...

He discovered, then promoted and then dated Meryl Streep.

John Cazale is important to movie history.

Here's the real kicker, though: The Godfather: Part III, which didn't come out until 12 years after Cazale's 1978 death, featured archival footage of Cazale in the Fredo Corleone role. It got a best picture nod, too.

Can't disagree with the OP. Great resume and nailing Meryl Streep. Miss him.

Correct. I said 8 "credits." Which kind of makes it more impressive, IMO. Only 5 features, but only 8 credits total (one of which was the TV version of the Godfather). Most actors do a ton of garbage before they're able to stand out in a real film.

Offhand, I can think of Talia Shire who was in Rockys and Godfathers. That's pretty good. I've never noticed her in anything else.

Speaking of Talia Shire she is related to Francis Copalla, and is Nicolas Cages aunt.

Quick glance at IMDB shows she was also in a TV movie called Daddy, I Don't Like It Like This

quote:

A father tries to toughen his son by paying the neighborhood bullies to beat him up. The title comes from the lad's cry during one of the staged bouts.

Guess the networks were running out of childhood abuse stories and had to get creative. This sounds worse than Arnold at the bicycle shop.

James Dean was only in 3 movies.

East of Eden, Rebel Without a Cause, and Giant.

They were all pretty great movies. He does't get the awards that Cazale got, but still, that is a strong line up.

Cazale benefited greatly from being best friends with Al Pacino when he was at the peak of his powers. He got the role of Fredo Corleone only after Pacino invited him to audition for the part. And then Pacino hounded Lumet to give him the role of Sal in Dog Day Afternoon. Don't get me wrong. Cazale was a fine actor. But it was more of being at the right place at the right time while being friends with the right people than being this great actor who all of the top directors wanted in their films.

They're siblings. Also, Shire is the mother of Jason Schwartzman.
