What has always held BR back is there are few restaurants and bars in close proximity to the stadium. I always enjoy it when you can bar crawl before going into the game.

You don't need to because of the Tailgate culture at LSU. Not every campus is like that, and so you need to bar hop. At LSU you just bounce around and meet people.

Been to BR for 2 games.
Some of the best tailgating.
For on campus tailgating I haven't seen better.
For parking lot type tailgating I go with Penn State and Michigan (golf course).
The Grove is a whole nother category also.
For bar hopping it's Madison. I assume Athens also, but I have never been there on a GameDay.

Ever consider that is big factor making LSU the best tailgating school?

I'm an LSU alumnus and spent much of my life in Baton Rouge, but it's not truly a "college town".
To get that experience, go to Gainesville, or Athens (Georgia or Ohio), Boulder, or Madison, WI. Those are really college towns. And Charlottesville, VA is BEAUTIFUL in the fall!
