Am I a soft panzy arse for loving this song? It was probably overplayed back in 1998 (18 years ago, holy frick!) but I catch myself loving it every time I hear it.

Probably a nostalgia factor in play here too.

Oh and does anybody know a good cover version of it that you could link me to?

Do you like Boyz II Men? That's about the only cover I can think of

The Sleeping with Sirens cover is the first one that comes to mind.

Little known fact...Goo Goo Dolls were originally signed to Metal Blade Records before ultimately signing with Warner Bros. in 1998.

They released several records under Metal Blade distribution, including the multi-platinum LP A Boy Named Good (although technically a Warner Bros. release). The company almost exclusively dealt with metal artists but decided to take a chance on a band that seemed much more marketable than some of their underground and commercially-antagonizing clients.

It's all about Uninvited from Alanis on the City of Angels soundtrack. Iris brings it too.

Yeah. It's pretty good. They put their own spin on it.

No. They have a handful of other songs that are on my regular playlist and I'm not ashamed to admit it.

Another is that Paul Westerberg produced their early work. They were thought to be a replacements rip off.

Their first single was called "we are the normal" and it was great. Supposedly, they will not play it live.

Most rock fans would agree it's a good song.

It spent a record 18 weeks at the top of the Billboard pop chart, who can argue with such a level of success?

I dont know if its nostalgia or what, but a good portion of my favorite songs (from all genres) are from the late 90s. I'm particularly fond of all the pop/soft rock from this era, such as Iris.

I liked Long Way Down.

Mid/Late 90's were the last vestiges of decent mainstream pop-rock. Theres a few traces still out there but it's been killed by hip hop and high school girl pop.

Since this is basically an appreciation thread now, allow me to throw in "Sympathy".

yeah, late 80s to about 90... they had a bit of an edge to them and while not great, they were okay...

they def decided to go the route of making their music more radio friendly and it paid off for them (success wise).. though they lost the little appeal, they previously had...
