Bruce Jenner was one of the most celebrated athletes in Olympic history.

Belligerent to you or them? Sometimes we find belligerence where we look for it and do not allow the other side its just due.
Devil's Advocate role duly noted, but there is usually a pretty big difference in conversational tenor when one side is being sensitive to slights versus when one side is uncommonly brusque.

I feel that this is what makes our nation/society/community/village great. We are allowed to express differing ideas and have differing opinions without fear of governmental, judicial, or monetary reprisal.
I don't think there needs to be an increase of fearfulness, but rather an increase in respect.
Like I said, I do love to argue, but there is a distinct difference between a constructive argument and ones that do more harm than good.
IMO, online anonymity to the point has given rise to more of the latter. Anonymity itself can be a great thing. Combines with respectful give and take, it becomes even better.
We'll see if there's a rise in constructive disagreement as social media communication becomes even more ingrained in our culture and worldwide. It's still quite new.

Personally, I think it is great for moderate and reasonable people and terrible for extremists. The progress and solutions are found in the middle while the extremists seek out echo chambers and get farther from reality.
Well put.
Sad reality is that it's the extremists who tend to dominate the medium.

While I agree someone else should have won the award but guy was a world record holder and gold medalist back in his day. A decathlete at that. Non athlete???

"Respect"? I think I just left a thread were you were calling a rather respectful poster a " thin skinned p***y" .
Maybe that guy is right . You try a bit too hard at times.

He's not an athlete anymore.
ETA- it was the 2015 espys, not the 1977 espys, clearly they gave him the award because of their agenda.

You can say "pussy" on this site.
And yup, i did. On the poliboard. Because he was being passive-aggressive that I would call his post blanket statement post hypocritical. Hinting that I was an apologist of some sort (he wanted to say Uncle Tom).
I PREFER a respectful give and take. I WILL argue nasty on occasion. Never asserted otherwise.

What you and he think matters naught

Even if everyone knew everyone's name, address, info just bc they don't post something doesn't mean they don't feel it. Would you rather we have every posters info and he has bottled up anger or would you prefer he release it anonymously?
No, I would rather we not be so open with our identities. But I do think there is a lot to be said about relative anonymity creates personas and opinions online that can be far more exaggerated than someone in real life.
