Is there anything we can, will, or would want to do in order to trade for Westbrook. The Thunder are in a precarious situation now and could forseeably lose 2 superstars in a year. IMO, they have to find a way to get something out of Westbrook if they don't think they can re-sign him.

Do we package Jrue, Tyreke, Asik, Buddy and/or future picks for this guy? Im not saying OKC would want any of these guys, but I'm just thinking hypothetically.

If the Pels could get him without moving Davis, they should. They can't, though, so they won't.

I was kind of thinking about this last night. Might honestly be worth the risk and just pray that AD could win him over and get him to re-up.

The chances of keeping AD long-term without another legit superstar next to him are probably under 25%. Probably going to have to roll the dice at some point - why not consider doing it here at this point?

Problem is that I don't think we have the right mix to offer OKC. Maybe Jrue (or Tyreke), Buddy, and next year's 1st and 2018 first?

What does this even mean? Are you saying you wouldn't want Westbrook on your team with AD?

I mean, yeah sure.

But 10 teams at least could offer better packages.

The best we could hope for would be if some team offered us a 1st for, say, Tyreke, and we could offer Jrue, Buddy, Diallo, 2 2017 1sts and a 2019 1st.

Not happening.

I dont think it will take all that to begin with. OKC knows they are on borrowed time and may be willing to take something rather than nothing.

I would love Westbrook, but we don't have the assets to get him.
the only assets we have are Jrue, Buddy and a 1st round pick, and that's not enough for even a one year rental of him.
There are a bunch of teams that could give them much more, Boston, Lakers, Minnesota, Sixers, etc.
I would bet the Lakers are calling non stop offering whatever the hell OKC wants.

The only way that it doesn't take significantly more than that is if Westbrook limits the teams he'll resign with and rules out the teams with the most assets like CP3 did to us.

You really think that is NOT going to happen?

if trading for westbrook were a realistic option I'd be all for it. I don't see how we can get westbrook without losing davis

It means that there is no way this will happen unless you completely gut the team AND mortgage your future on betting RW stays after this coming season.

Meaning, even if we COULD make it work, the team will be in for another 5-8 years of being irrelevant, and why even bother with the Warriors fixing to run the table in the west anyway?

I hate to say this, but a star of Westbrook's caliber will never land via FA or trade in NOLA....

I want the pels to win. I want them to be exciting. But I am also a realist.

The only way we get stars in our small market is via Draft...Ala CP3, ala AD...

Then they leave, then we replenish...

That depends on how he feels about Boston. With KD going to the Warriors the best chance to make the Finals is going east. If my goal were to win, and most top players on their 3rd contract do prioritize winning since the money is the same everywhere, then the Celtics appeal to me much more than the Lakers.

Our best chance to get Westbrook or anyone like him for that matter is to make the playoffs this season and be as competitive as possible. Even then it's very unlikely we get him. I'd rather roll with what we have rather than trade everything away now and risk not locking him up long term (that's assuming we'd even have the assets to get him, which we don't)

While mostly true, it is possible to land free agents like him by being successful or showing enough promise to be very successful if said star came. With that said, it's hard for a market like us to become that attractive and I don't see us doing it before AD's contract is up. Meaning, we'll probably lose AD and have to hope our next star (if we ever get him) makes this team attractive enough to lure a big name FA.

Ibaka bright back:

Oladipo - 2 years left then RFA
Ilyasova - 1 year then UFA
Sabonis - 11th overall

They are trading RW because he has a year left. Evans and Jrue have a year left so they have no future value to OKC. Asik lol. There is literally no shot we can get Westbrook

Tyreke, Jrue, Asik, entire 2017 draft and our 2019 1st for Westbrook and Steven Adams. Plenty of expiring contracts to convince both teams. It puts us in the "win now" mode and sends OKC straight to the top of the lottery race. Cause thats probably where they want to be without KD. And I will stop watching Pels ball if we get rid of Buddy.

Westbrook
Buddy
Don't care
AD
Adams

Should we? Abso-frickin-lutely. Trade anyone not named Anthony Davis

Can we? Sadly no.
