This would be most appreciated. Does anyone know what a PSA number of 5.1 means?

Depends partly on your age, but a PSA of 5.1 is generally considered elevated. It could be from some kind of irritation to your prostate (like prostatitis or urinary tract infection), benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), or from prostate cancer. But just getting a single measurement of 5.1 doesn't mean that much by itself. You should make sure you see your urologist regularly and get your PSA checked as often as he recommends. Usually, PSA is monitored over time and if it continues to rise, they'll do a prostate biopsy to check for cancer. The good news is that most prostate cancers are caught early if you get your PSA checked frequently, so make sure you do that! Catching prostate cancer early means you have a veeerry good chance of being cured.

Testosterone fuels prostate cancer growth, so if you have an elevated PSA, that may be why your doctor doesn't want you taking it. That doesn't mean you have cancer, just means your doctor is being very careful just in case.
