Jurgen deserves a lot of credit

For years we've been told by him that the US will "take it to" the bigger teams. In the past, it's been all talk, no substance. Granted, Ecuador isn't a team with mercurial talent, but still a very solid group and we controlled that game tonight. They couldn't handle our pressure.

I've never really faulted the coaches, they don't always have a lot to work with. Still don't see how we will replace Dempsey. In years past you had a reyna and Donovan, Donovan and Dempsey. Who will be the next guys to step up?

Brooks will be the first truly world class defender. Fabian will be very good for a few more years, as will Bradley. Wood and Pulisic seem very promising.

Brooks looks good. But the other guys we are hoping on. World cup is only 2 years away. Going to need more than dempsey making things happen on the other end.

Makes leaving Donovan off the 2014 WC roster all the more insane.
ETA: wow, people still agree with that move. Boggles the mind.

Losing to Colombia was a wake up call for sure.

This is the first time since 2013 it has been enjoyable to watch our team. Jurgen has done a good job during this Copa despite my eternal hate for him.

I have always liked jurgy and never got the hate
I don't think hes some great tactician or anything but he is good motivator and knows how to get the best out his players.. I know that has been said a lot but he perfect for a national team where you need to get guys in shape physically and mentally for 8 games. I do think he would suck as a club coach though

Do you legitimately not understand why a large majority of our fans dislike this guy?
Oh wait, this is coming from the guy who said Mahrez is overrated
Posted on 6/17/16 at 8:58 am to cwil177
haha okay, I can see why people could dislike him, just like how I can see people could be duped into thinking mahrez is amazing.

This is also the first time we have stuck to a consistent back 4 and to a consistent formation with players playing in roles they are comfortable in. Lalas said something to this effect last night. That Jurgen always talks about getting guys out of their comfort zone but a lot times staying within your comfort zone is the best thing to do. Gomez responded that by doing this Jurgen is now the one not in his comfort zone

wait, the team was on it's heels, because he refused to sub a guy who had no legs, and it ended up causing a foul which led to immediate goal.
Even lanny cakes was calling him out for not getting fresh legs in there.
USA was lucky, Ecuador missed several sitters for the tie.
Bedoya literally had nothing, and he kept him on the pitch for another 20ish minutes, and his tiredness led to goal #1.
It's bad when a guy who isn't a coach, is coaching better from the booth. He called for fresh legs, especially for bedoya, in 5oth minute. And luckily they survived.
And please dont give me any of that, u cant sub in 50th minute bullshite. For some reason, asinine coaches have this 70 minute rule, u sub then. Guess what, it can be too late, and almost was for USA.

I like Jurgen. I think he is by far the best coach we have had for our national team. I was also not very high on Landon as a player (I know I will get stoned for that by many) and didn't have an issue with him moving away from him.
That said I absolutely agree with Landon and other that were calling for a sub for Bedoya. He was gassed. He was burned out. I though going to 10 men was going to hurt us because of how we were playing. We were using forwards as defenders and we were running ragged. I understand why coaches like to wait, for a sub, but when a player is gassed, he is gassed. You make the switch and move on.
That decision to wait did nearly cost us the game and cost us the ability to have the player for the next game. It seems like waiting for a specific time on the clock to sub a player is coaching based on philosophy instead of coaching for the moment.

So you have no idea what you are talking about then. Serious question, if Landon is not very good, then have we ever produced a competent player? Most goals, most assists, best first touch, best finisher, best delivery on set pieces and corners, smartest off-ball movement, and the one player that Mexico feared. I just do not understand what the hell some of you are watching.

It's an insane opinion, and in my experience it comes from people who 1. Don't understand the game of soccer very well and 2. Don't like Landon as a person.

I freaking hate Landon, but to say he wasn't a good player is just pure incompetence.

^ and that's all I ask for. Landon could have murdered my family, but that does not mean he is not the GOAT USMNT player by a landslide.

Seen a lot of this on r/Soccer lately.
People treating the people who disliked him as idiots, because Jurgen is now largely doing what a lot of us begged him to do....
