With the draft now out of the way, anyone care to take a stab at what the baseball team will look like next season? I know we don't know what the drafted guys will do, or what the incoming freshman will do....I'm not ready to let go of baseball yet though.

Starters - Lange, Latz, McKay???

C- Pap
1B - Romero / Other Jordan
2B - Freeman
3B - Reid
SS - Dawson
LF - Jordan
CF - Duplantis
RF - Deichman / Other Jordan

DH - Deichman / Other Jordan / Romero

Where does Lochridge fit in? Can Wofford maybe take an OF spot, or first base if the other don't work?

He won't be. And Loch will be here and healthy also. And Diechmann will likely remain at 1st.

I am glad someone started this thread. I hope that it doesn't get derailed by the next year crowd. I will say this, I think we only lose Pint, Williams and Weatherly among the signees. That is going to mean a lot of competition in the lineup next year.

Zack Watson, Jake Slaughter, Josh Smith- 3 high school shortstops who could profile other places if Kramer returns. One of these guys could play 2nd if Freeman leaves and I like the option of moving one of these guys to CF. Duplantis just does not have a good enough arm to play there. He may end up being the CF though.

1 other experiment I would like to see in the fall, maybe try Deichmann in the OF if he comes back and see if Romero can play first. I will post my pitching thoughts in separate post.

Doug Thompson on morning radio surmised that the likely rotation might be Lange/Latz/Gilbert next year.

I expect Wofford's bat to get a lot better through summar/fall ball and for him to work into the line up.

Don't forget about Breaux. His bat improved late in the year and he's a better outfielder/base runner than Beau.

Also - hearing great things about Josh Smith - signee from Catholic High BR who was drafted late. PM will need to find a place for him in the line-up.

I don't know much about the incoming freshman.

It's hard to take a shot at the line up until we know who is leaving for the majors but it's fun to give it a shot.

It seems like we are going to have a lot of options, just with returning players, if enough of them return. That's not even counting the incoming freshman who may be able to make some noise.

Pitching wise the foundation is there.

Lange as the ace, Newman as the closer. Reynolds and Bugg should he return really anchors the pen early in the season.

I think signees Hess and Peterson will get a look in the rotation along with Latz and maybe McKay if he can make some kind of a jump. I think Riley Smith and Jesse Stallings will probably sign.

Caleb Gilbert, Doug Norman, Austin Bain could be options.

Even with losing a couple people to the draft, we will have one of the better collection of arms we've had in quite a while.

I'll believe it when I see it. This year the pitching was supposed to carry us, and it didn't. I thought we would for sure have 4 solid starters this year and it didn't happen.

I would love to see a guy cement himself on Sunday and for midweek games. Want to know there is a guy who will go out every Wednesday and throw 5-6 solid innings. Give us a better chance to win those games and have a solid arm in post season.

It seems every year we are talking about needing a solid 3rd and 4th starter, but we never seem to have it.

Whether the finished product supports my statement or not doesn't change that the raw materials going into next year will be better than we've seen in a while.

Count on it, Smith and Stallings are gone...Hopefully, their drafter throws them a couple bucks.

Why do you think this? Latz is a toss up as is Hess. How is this different from 2011 to now when we had Gausman and staff, or Nola and staff. We always seem to have one stud and hoping the second starter pans out, unless I am forgetting somebody.

Stallings has a number, so it all depends on if the Reds offer it to him.
