My understanding is he was the best horse of the 90s, why didn't he run the triple crown races?

Also, was he a better horse than American Pharo?

Wasn't he a grass horse until he was too old for the Triple Crown races?

My understanding has always been, he was low-grade stakes and didn't really start winning on dirt until he was 4 years old.

My favorite horse of all-time. Kind of a modern day Seabiscuit at the time who wasn't all that special early on, but started dominating at 4 & 5. Also had the perfect jockey for his demeanor, Jerry Bailey.

I almost cried when his win streak ended in the Pacific Classic. I still go back and watch Cigar's races on youtube.

Saw him a couple years ago at the horse park in Kentucky. He was just hanging out, rolling around in the mud like any other horse.
