After seeing this team in scrimmages all fall and spring, I could see the talent they possessed. I was pleased to see the coaches figure out who to play where early in the season and the players come together as a team. I thought, early on, that this team had a chance to host a regional, but I didn't think they'd be a national seed. The late season surge by the pitching staff and the continued good play by the position players are directly responsible for this success. I'll never sell this team short in their goals.

If we make it to Omaha I would consider this year to be one of CPM's best coaching years.

I'll say this.

We definitely don't have quite as much starpower as last year, however the cohesion of this group is higher than last years.

I think that is a very large part, whether people admit it or not.

For sure. I'm not usually believer in the "scrappy" team with "good chemistry" because more often than not talent wins out. But this team has definitely shown they can compete with anyone because of how well the pieces have fit together since midseason.

Despite what people say here, one of CPM's great strengths is the ability to adjust as the season goes on and find effective roles for the guys, and he has done an amazing job with this team. This might be his best coaching job since he's been here.

Then rally possum happened!

He was just a down on his luck scrawny marsupial. It was likely that on the next rainy night, he would probably think it a good idea to cross the road. In a couple of days crows would have been dining on his carcass.

But fate brought him to the stadium. Not just any stadium, but one that regularly boasts crowds of 10,000+. Any other stadium may have had a few hundred in attendance. Providence brought him into the limelight and all the fame, money, and women that accompany such good fortune. No longer skulking in the shadows and contemplating his own existence, he could finally realize his own dreams, not having to play dead when approached by predators, but able to hiss with glee.

Maybe, just maybe, rally possum needed LSU as much as LSU needed him.

Wow OneFifty, that was beautiful. A proper paean to the Possum.

If we lose our next two and don't make the Supers btw, I accept full responsibility because of this post and totally expect to be berated for a while.

I'd say we have an inside track at this point if we take care of business. Win the regional unless we completely fall apart, and a favorable matchup in the SR.

not a dark horse now, per say. But I will say this team has exceeded everyone's expectations.

While all players have exceeded expectations, there are several players have been a great addition and worth noting.
1) Reid at 3rd base. Hitting right at .300 all year and excellent glove
2) Duplantis in right field. Great lead off hitter batting at .340 mark & few errors with great speed.
3) Freeman @ 2nd base. A highlight reel that gives us another .330 hitter with great speed and base stealing ability.

Returning Players that have been outstanding
1) Robertson at Short. Has followed in the long list of excellent LSU SS's. Lots of range and a bucket full of clutch hits. Good speed, batted at .320 for year and has played thru several injuries and endured the criticism of this board.
2) Fraley in CF. Steady, errorless ball. Batted at .320 and added power in last few weeks. Speed & Base Stealing ability..Add his name to LSU great CF's
3) Jordan Twins. Have become the spark plugs of our team as Sophomores. Beau has made many a great play in LF with only one error. Batted at .310 with some power. Bryce as lead the SEC in on base % & HBP and also batted at .310 with power.
4) Deichmann at 1st. With 400 opportunities to handle the ball, he's made only 8 errors. His .270 batting average & 9 HR's, has made him more than just a steady player.
5 & 6) Papierski & Romero at Catcher. Pap has been a great defensive catcher with only 1 error all year. His .227 batting average is improving since batting right handed. Romero has been a great addition to team with 9 HR's and .310 batting average. Would be nice to get him more at bats but hard to do with Bryce leading SEC in OB%.
We'll leave the Pitching evaluation for another post.
Only one thing to add....Great Season....Proud Fans....Lets Finish This

Not sure how we would be considered a dark horse since we took 3/5 from the #1 overall and we are a national seed.
Take the season as a whole. A little over a month ago, it wasn't certain we'd even be one of the higher seeds within a regional, if we made one.

Going into the Florida series, the general consensus was that we'd salvaged a lost season, and could probably host a regional if we could get a win against the Gators (and that was iffy) and not go 1-and-done in the SEC Tourney.

We somehow emerged from that as a national seed, and one of the hottest teams in baseball.

There was a thread on here a couple months back that asked if we would win a single SEC series, and here we are as a national seed. This team has greatly exceeded anything we could have guessed after losing so many people.

well this is just dumb. I'm sure the team is terrified at the thought of playing coastal Carolina at the box
