I know hating on Verne seems to be the cool thing to do around here, but I'll really miss him

Will not miss hearing him always get excited saying, "First down, A-LA-BAMA!".

Someone needs to steal his coat again this year. They never bothered me too much. I liked them calling LSU games because it meant it was a big game.

How soon before all the LSU fans are convinced Nessler hates them and favors Bama? Two games?

If that.
I'm the rare LSU fan who likes Verne. I always thought he was fair to the Tigers. I always thought he was fair to both teams in the game. And when an LSU player was having a big game -- like when Fournette steamrolled Auburn last season -- he and Gary were quick to recognize and give props.

Agreed. Like I've said before it seems only rednecks dislike Verne and Gary.

Absolutely ridiculous.

Verne is a clown at this stage of his career. He can still perform to below-adequate levels, but it's ugly and the best conference in CFB deserves better than him as their showcase announcer.

Gary is fine, I'd say a solid B. SEC fans glorify him to GOAT status, which is ridiculous. He derps way too often for people to laud him as much as they do. I'd easily take Herbstreit over Danielson for a color commentator, and by a comfortable margin.

We won't even make it to October before they're whining.

u knew this was coming, Nessler wasn't hired to do NFL football, the NFL gig is the waiting out period till uncle verne was forced out., he's a college guy, and they hired him away to be that SEC on CBS guy.

Shocked they let the news on Verne out so soon, figured they would wait till middle of season, then announce his retirement, errrr shite canning.

Damn right ... run off for calling that count Jeannine Edwards "sweet baby."

Pretty soon we won't have Verne, Gary, Ron ... we'll be stuck with bunch of vaginas calling football games.

Way, way back I thought he was pretty good calling golf at the Masters but it's been going on many, many years now that he has at least one major screw up on every single damn college football games he calls - regardless of the teams or players. He misidentifies teams, players, coaches, locations, score, time, you name it.

I don't know if he's drunk, stupid, senile, or just plain over the hill.
Jamie Keehn: oldest player in college football at 76. Thanks, Verne!

I'll miss his voice only for the association it has for everyone here: love him or hate him, he meant some SEC football was about to happen. Just love Saturday's in the fall.
