A bill mandating that schoolchildren in Louisiana be taught the Declaration of Independence is being opposed by a state lawmaker.
Louisiana State Rep. Barbara Norton (D) said, "For the Declaration of Independence, only Caucasians [were] free. And for you to bring a bill to request that our children will recite the Declaration, I think it's a little bit unfair."

And the one who introduced the bill is an idiot if she thinks that having kids waste time mumbling through a daily recitation of the DoI is going to accomplish anything positive.

It's Barbara Norton. She isn't qualified to run a lemonade stand, let alone create and/or vote on legislation. A quick Google search will reveal ample evidence of her stupidity

Did she mention anything about her party's historic views on slavery?

Ever notice the race baiters like this skank are the most racist people in existence?

In 2016 our state legislature is trying to pass a bill demanding that basic history be taught?
Our state is so damn retarded sometime

Surprised her last name isn't hyphenated

While her point is valid, by her logic or lack there of, learning any U.S. history before the aftermath of the Civil War could be deemed "a little bit unfair." Here's a clue for Ms Norton and her liberal progressive ilk, you concept of fairness will always be in sharp contrast to reality.

What's amazing is that's probably not even close to being the dumbest thing to come out of her mouth in recent years....dumb as a box of rocks is an understatement. Makes me glad that I live on the "right" side of the river. Bossier > Shreveport and it's not even close.

There is one video where she tries to introduce a bill for women's rights in the workplace. Another rep tries to explain that what she is trying to do already exists and is actually more inclusive than the one she has written. The part she didn't get was that the previous bill didn't use the word women, instead it kept repeating regardless of sex.

Longer version of her opposition
I get what Ms. Norton is trying to say here, but her ability to articulate it is laughable. She rambles on about how having kids recite this is unfair because Dr King wasn't even born at the time it was written.
She has a problem with the preamble stating "all men are created equal," yet at the time slavery existed here.
This is one of the founding documents of our country, and it's important to understand the context in which it was written. She could argue that children should be taught the context, but not act like this was some evil document.
