I have a chance at a promotion at work and dangit I log in to the site that HR sends me. fricking you got 26 mins to answer 15 questions. I got rattled at 5 min mark and was on number 11. FML. Didn't finish the 15 questions. Why do they do this? Fwiw my current job requires no time stipulation if a problem arises.

When you say your current job has no time stipulation, do you mean that if a problem were to arise that fixing it immediately would yield the same result as fixing it in a week?

Companies don't want to give promotions (surprise), so they throw bullshite obstacles in there to deter people. If you were black or a woman, you'd have been given the promotion already.

I think stuff like that shows a lack of imagination of the part of the company you work for. They can't see for themselves whether or not you're promotable, and they don't even understand the characteristics and traits that makes a person valuable to their organization.

So they rely on some standardized test that tells them what to think about you.

Hopefully, somewhere down the line, you'll work at a place that doesn't rely on that nonsense to tell them how to make decisions.

So if it takes you a year to solve a problem that your coworker can solve in an hour your supervisor would think everything is cool?? I doubt that.

Bruh, you have to make decisions during pressure situations. Grow some balls or stay at the position you are on.

Many tests are designed that way. It's like taking an ACT or SAT--you skip the ones you don't know and if you have time you go back to them. It shows that you know how to prioritize.

I've applied for a few jobs recently and had to take these timed apptitude tests.

I hear it's to mitigate law suits. If you do too well you're overqualified, if you do poorly you're underqualified

I just went on a job interview where the day went like this:

Got there at 8:45 am.
Test starts at 9 am. The test lasts 3 hours.
5 sections. Each section is timed. Average of 31 questions for 15 minutes.
One section was a written essay and another section was on Excel.

Then, the company provided lunch. They let me know after lunch if I passed the test to start with the interview process. (I passed)

I had 3 different interviews:
First one I met with 2 managers.
2nd interview was a peer interview.
3rd was an interview with a hiring manager.

The whole process lasted all day.

what happens now is that you accept help.

learn to breathe deeply and fully, when you are working under pressure.

working under pressure was something that was being tested.
You'll do better next time if you accept that its a test and stop trying to make life fair. Life is rarely fair.
You go ahead and do better next time. And relax.
Breathe deeply and fully and as you let it out, let go of all concerns.
