Also, to me, taking lots of callers is outdated radio. The callers are mostly painful.

luckily the best call screener/gofer in the business posts here. tell him what you think.

in all seriousness, the biggest problem with WWL is the nepotism.

Buddy died and they handed Sportstalk to Kenny Wilkerson, the sideline reporter. Then Wilkerson got fired and they made Gus Kattengell, who I believe was a producer at the time, the sideline guy and made Deke, who only covered high school sports at the time, the main Sportstalk host.

Kattengell left and they made Kristian Garic, who was also a producer, the sideline reporter. They needed another host so they hired Hebert's kid, who I actually enjoy.

The station seems to have a major hard on for hiring Good Ol' Baws who sound like stereotypical Louisianians instead of hiring decent people who actually have talent for radio.

"Hi we'd like to welcome in Dee Smith, President of the NFLPA. How are ya Dee?" "Great Deke, thanks for having me." "So how are negotiations with the league going." "Okay thus far, we're working through issues." "Thanks Dee, but we've got to go to break."

Yes yes yes

I drive the commute to mandeville via causeway every day so sports radio and podcasts are all I listen to, and this tidbit is hilarious to me bc they do it all the time.

They bring on a SCHEDULED guest, then say 1 sentence and then act like they are being polite about it like, "we are really excited to have you as a guest and we don't want you to get cut off by running up against the half hour where we take a 20 minute break for old news and commercials so do you mind sticking with us?"

I'm always like, didn't you schedule this? wtf.

Also I only give wwl a chance on the way home in the afternoon bc their normal non sports show hosts are the worst in the biz, either absolutely ancient or extremely odd, like wouldn't let my kids spend time with them odd.

Listening again.

They are "talking soccer".

Listening to him talking about the pronunciation of Leicester City is pretty amusing.

That's what your typical Louisianan wants to hear.

I don't think that's necessarily true. I think it's lazy by the brass over there. Rather than hiring actually talented people, they just hire coonasses and promote from within because it's cheap. The most talented person there is Jim Henderson and he's an institution at this point.

A year or 2 ago I was listening to Deke talk basketball, and he didn't know what the numbers 1-5 were and how they identified with positions on the court.

Just sad considering we have an nba team in the city

Instead of prepping and having good content and interesting guests, they take callers to fill the hour. Its quick and easy. They just react to whatever the caller is saying.

honest question, is there a producer that gives bobby and deke a blueprint of what to talk about? like outside of the guests?

or do they just let them wing it.

if there is someone giving them direction, who exactly is it? dave cohen or mark chifisi?

I don't come in until after there show is over with. DC only has three 5 minute breaks including a 6-8 minute newsbreak at the top of each hour. So 21-24 minutes total in breaks.

I like Bobby and Detillier is the best, but it is ridiculous how many commercials they have. When I turn WWL on I am shocked when I don't find a commercial on. Or the same news report they will replay 6 times in the next two hours. Or an annoying traffic report.

I'm sure you're not privy to some of the shite that gets said amongst the higher-ups but does any of the stuff we complain about ever get mentioned around the building there?

I mean we're coming up on a week after the draft and Hebert still can't pronounce Onyemata. "CAH-KNEW" Neal is embarassing.

I think Kristian is awesome. I can even stomach TBob if he's with Kristian way more than I can stomach all of the others.

That guy is the all time leader in malapropisms, day after day after day.

Lie-O-Luh is probably the best example.
