After losing what is it 8/9 starters from last year and not having a reliable closer (also relying on a transfer as our Sunday started ((who is arguably the most consistent of the 3)) we are in the top 15 in most polls set to host a regional and hitting pretty well with the amount of freshmen we trout out.

Am I missing something? I want to be angry and mad but I just can't figure out what it is to be upset about.

Im with the OP on this one. Its not reasonable to expect this team this year to be a world beater. Im pretty happy with where they are considering the average age. I think the mental fortitude needs some work with all the midweek games we dont seem to show up for, but, like it or not, This whole damned team turned over this year and they are still cutting their teeth. Most years, yes, there should not be a drop in talent and production, but its just the way it worked out this year. I think This core group does big things down the road.

Getting swept by Tulane and their mid week starter twice and wasn't even remotely competitive, losing 2/3 to Miss St at home will kinda do that to you short term.

Win the series against Ole Miss and all will be fine for now, lose the series to Ole Miss and the misery continues. It's pretty simple actually.

Most fans knew this team would struggle.

We're currently tied for 2nd in West, but since we've lost to Tulane twice this year, some fans are ready to fire Mainieri.

Par for the course with our fans.

LSU baseball fans want to compete for a National Championship. it ain't happening this year.

also, our pitching staff has bordered on awful at times this year. virtually the same guys as last year and they have regressed, esp our bullpen guys.

lastly, our batters get completely shut down at times, esp against the "crafty" off speed guys.

so our fans want to win excellence and are being given mediocrity; ergo, the melt.

I would say we all expected the rough batting situation but the pitching just pisses many off, me included.

Hey, hey, you stop it with all of those facts ya hear

Seriously though, we have some areas in which we need improvement. This is the only time I am ok with saying this is a young team. However, we are still in the top 25 and have EVERYTHING to play for.

The pitching outside of Valek is a concern to me (I'm a casual baseball fan as LSU is the only baseball I follow and watch outside the CWS) but the runs could also have to do with the youth and inexpierence out there also.

The closers are just mind boggling. Theres not one I have faith in.

You would think "the most knowledgeable fans in college baseball" could see what you see and react accordingly. Maybe they are too busy applauding great plays by the other team to notice.

I agree, just disappointing that what was supposed to be our strength this year has been a major let down. Nice to see Lange start to turn things around though

This happens every year with ever sport, regardless of outcome.

Preseason: "Eh, it's a building year. Maybe X losses. I'd be ok with that."

Early season: "look, we're winning games!!! We'll never lose again! Championship or bust!"

SEC Play starts: "We lost a few games! Worst team in a long time! Waste of talent! Fire the coach!!"

Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

Why do expectations and being disappointed have to go hand in hand? We are right where I thought we'd be at this point in the season. I predicted 15-15 in SEC and 20-6 OOC. It's the reality of this team being inexperienced and not having a great in-game coach. Doesn't mean I can't still be disappointed with that and think we can do better.

They're stupid if they think Skip would have won all those championships in today's college baseball!

I think the melt comes from one main thing: We are better than a lot of people thought we are going to be, so expectations rose as the season progressed, and now when we lose a game that we shouldn't have, people use their new expectations to blame whatever they can for the loss.

I, for one, am thrilled with this team's performance given what we lost from a year ago. The only thing that has me disappointed is the bullpen situation.

We're hitting WAAAY better than I thought we would, starting pitching is doing their part, but the bullpen is the most inconsistent bullpen I've seen in awhile at LSU

How many coaches would have only 1 win in Omaha having been national seeds for 4 consecutive year?
