Fun Military History quiz question:
What was the name of the largest winged airplane that ever dropped bombs on England?

I'm more interested in the largest non-winged airplane to drop bombs on England.

The airship Zeppelins would be the answer to your question.
They were huge.
They were huge.

He 177 Greif "Griffin"
(My best guess.)
(My best guess.)

The Zeppelin-Stakken "Giant"
ETA: that is if the question refers to enemy airplanes. If training exercises are included, I'm sure the B52 has dropped bombs on England at some point.

The airship Zeppelins would be the answer to your question

I agree the question may be some sort of trick. Obviously the B-52 would be the largest candidate for an accident or training situation.
The Z-S was a large plane for WWI, but the He 177 Greif I noted was the same length and much heavier. The Germans never developed a successful "heavy" bomber, and the He 177 was the closest and used in those disastrous Winter/Spring 1944 raids.

Zeppelins aren't airplanes though. Show me a non-winged airplane

The Zeppelin-Staaken R.VI was a four-engined German biplane strategic bomber of World War I
The bomber was reputedly the largest wooden aircraft to be produced in any quantity during World War I, with only the Siemens-Schuckert R.VIII prototype bomber of 1918–1919 being larger, with the Staaken R.VI's wingspan of 42.2 m (138 ft) nearly equaling that of the World War II Boeing B-29 Superfortress, and somewhat less than the 48 m (157 ft) span of the Siemens-Schuckert R.VIII.

Great work.
It is the Zeppelin-Staaken R.VI.
Even with Google, I thought that this quiz would be tough.
Thanks for the photo of the model. It's beautiful.
Here's something for those offering insults: Your mother sucks cocks in Hell.

Zeppelins during WW1 would be my guess. They didn't show London a Whole Lotta Love.

BUILD it? I'd have to buy it. I could never build that. It's a work of art.
Anyway, the answer is that a World War One airplane was the largest. It was a four engine heavy bomber. Most people would think that it would be a World War Two airplane, but, Germany had no four engine heavy bomber ready for operations during the main bombing campaign against Britain in 1940.

It would be a challenge. But I'd love to build that.

Tigers of Geauxld:
I think that your answer was a guess, because the wiki article doesn't state that the Giant is/was the largest aircraft to drop bombs on England. Did I miss something in the article?

There was no Radar in WWI but, even if there were, those airplanes would be quite stealthy, I'm guessing. I think that radio waves won't reflect very much at all on an airplane made mostly of a wooden frame with doped fabric surfaces.
