You're right. One of the main reasons the British saw such success with their Mosquito light bomber/attack/recon aircraft is it was just about invisible to German radar because it was mostly wood.

Wasn't a fair amount of it made from balsa?

It was. Parts of the fuselage were made by laminating balsa and spruce.
