Lionsgate is adapting Patrick Rothfuss’ best-selling fantasy trilogy.
Lindsey Beer, one of the writers who is working on Transformers 5, has been tapped to adapt the first book of Patrick Rothfuss’ best-selling fantasy trilogy The Kingkiller Chronicle for Lionsgate.
Robert Lawrence, whose credits include 1995 classic Clueless as well as the Robert Redford-James Gandolfini drama The Last Castle, is producing.
Lionsgate has a multi-pronged plan on adapting the epic fantasy book and simultaneous developing movies, television series and video games.
Kingkiller chronicles the life and times of Kvothe, a magically gifted young man who grows to be the most notorious wizard his world has ever seen.

That's great. Now if we can just get him to finish the book series. We don't need another George R.R. Martin situation.

It's gonna suck. There's simply no way you could adapt that book well IMO. Rothfuss's writing and incredible imagery make the entire thing.
The story itself is pretty rudimentary and nothing really ever happens. Rothfuss's brilliant writing is the key.

You are probably right. I could see this turning into Eragon real quick, however I love the book and am going to hold out hope that this gets the attention and effort it deserves.

The way Kvothe's story progresses, I think this series would be much better as an episodic television show than a movie. Too many separate, non-intertwined "adventures" to create any kind of cohesive movie that stays true to the source material.

Anyone know when the last book is coming out?

Not sure how I feel about it, when I first read the book it was great, afterward...it felt a little too perfect where the main character can do everything. Bitches even fall on their knees for him.

Yea. And how in the world could they do the music scenes well? In the books they're the most incredible mix of fanciful and alpha things a person can do, but they'd probably be cheesy as hell in a movie.

This was announced several months ago.

Cool, now that A-hole just needs to publish the last book. I think he's said its been done for a long time now and its just being edited forever.

Supposedly he went to the publisher with all three books complete. It took him like 4 years to edit the second one and all he's been doing since then is editing the last one.
I love the dude's writing but damn.

Of the recent fantasy series I've read, this is the least cinematic and least able to be made into anything resembling a film that I can think of.
I would much rather see The Gentlemen Bastards, The Raven's Shadow, the Night Angel Trilogy or the Lightbringer Series; I'd rather they finally make a Chronicles of the Black Company series of movies, or something of Joe Abercrombie's or Brandon Sanderson's. Those are far more adaptable and would be far more fun to see on the big screen.
The Kingkiller Chronicles is pretty blasé, if you ask me. Rothfuss can turn a damn phrase, which is why the books are at all palatable (bordering on great), but he tends to be unable to avoid the pitfalls of the tangent storyline that makes the reader want to punch him in the dick. It's nice that Kvothe goes to learn to frick fairies and shite, but good lord, move on from it.

That whole episode was ridiculous, super boring, and beyond embarrassing for Rothfuss. If I re-read it, I'm going to skip over it.

The thing to keep in mind is that Kvothe is an extremely unreliable narrator who admits that he's stretching the truth.
I'm hoping there's a payoff to this where we get a good glimpse of how much was BS.
But Rothfuss would need to finish the 3rd dang book for us to do that. The guy caught advanced-stage G.R.R.M. Disease.

This is aboslutely NOT my genre, like at all. But for Christmas a few years ago I got the first 2 books and I couldnt' put them down. Loved them. Now that it's been years and still no book 3 I don't even really have an interest anymore in seeing how it ends.
I would watch a movie though.

I agree with those who said this series will be tough to make a good movie from. It would be better served as a Netflix or HBO series.
And if you enjoyed reading them, I highly recommend the audio books. They're a fantastic listen, and it really helps highlight Rothfuss's excellent writing.

Wasn't this in TV development? While I found the books boring and in dire need of major editing, the story is pretty good and would do well with a television medium. Movie? No way. It's entirely too much for such a limited time frame
ETA: Found it. So yes, FOX was developing it. I'm unsure what happened, but this is terrible news.

Sounds alot like The Book of the New Sun series, which would also be nearly impossible to adapt.
