Basil is not really easy to maintain. You have to clip the flowers in the top to keep it going and even then it's pretty wimpy. Mint and rosemary could live thru a nuclear attack

I let one plant bloom and now have basil growing in every nook and cranny that the seeds could find a foot hold. it grows like kudzu! I haven't planted basil in three years yet I get plenty each year.
