Long story short, I was talking with this dude who is a habitual name dropper. He will talk about something and say something like "If I ever need that I can just call _______". If you talk about getting a speeding ticket, whatever you talk about getting a ticket he will say "I will give ______ a call if I ever get one there".

Saw this guy today and he was talking about going someone and he said "if I ever want to go there I can just give ______ a call" and just for the hell of it I asked him "oh how do you know _________?" his response was "he graduated high school with my mom". I had to keep myself from laughing.

I thought it was only name dropping if the people being named are meant to impress people.

Is that the case?

Saying, "if I want to go to Chicago, I can just call my buddy Ryan" isn't name dropping.

Is he for real,or do you think it's bullshite?

I know a guy like that always dropping those names,I always thought he was bullshite. Then I needed a drummer for a demo session one time, and he said he could hook me up.

Mark Herndon, The Drummer for Alabama, showed up for my demo session. Lesson learned for me.

Worked with a guy who, no matter which business we were discussing in Baton Rouge, knew the owner intimately.

Everybody was either in his wedding, his college roommate, dated his sister, or he coached his kid and he's like an uncle in the family.

He was a salesman and couldn't sell shite.

Not really. But me and Barry Switzer were talking about this with Jerry Jones and I was telling them about how Bo Pelini was bad about doing just this same thing. And Les Miles agreed. I was thinking about it later when I was playing in a foursome with Houston Nutt and then again when I met Oscar De la Hoya at the Beau Rivage. I was thinking, "I could really drop some names if I wanted. Especially since my mom used to work in a derm office frequented by Bill and Hillary, Mary Steenberger and even Brooks Robinson."

But then I decided that would be rather pompous and I decided not to mention my connections.

Maybe he is a good friend to these people and they are willing to help him out whenever he needs help?
