They can't afford a better coach right now.

We've been turned down by 7 other coaches. Depending on the contract, I'm ok with this. Tech bball is in a sad state of affairs. Hopefully he will at least recruit his arse off.

Is it because of how much you can offer or the actual situation of the program?

Actual situation of the program. The cupboard is really bare right now, not much talent on the roster. We have money for a decent hire and Bryce Drew was our guy, but he chose Vandy. A deal was in place with at Tech, but Vandy swooped in late. They offered a little more and I think it's an easier place to win.

To me though, even if the cupboard is bare, being in Atlanta makes it an easy rebuild if you can tap into the AAU circuit.

Isn't there some buyout or something?

Not if he leaves to take another job. Only if fired.

Word on the talk stations this morning is that they are going to make a run at Greg Marshall. I just do NOT see that happening. At all.

Between this and the Grizzlies making the Playoffs it has been a hell of a sports day in Memphis for a random day in April.

Unless Vandy has some strong reputation of recruiting nationally, I'm not seeing it. GT at least can try to get somebody in ATL.

Josh Pastner's ability-to-recruit has never been questioned, so tapping into the talent in/around Atlanta shouldn't be the problem.

Pastner's ability-to-coach has always been questioned, so doing something with that talent will be the problem.

Which is why I'm not worried about this hire. If he can get someone with ATL ties on his staff, he should be able to pull some talent. Tech has always been able to pull decent talent. Gregory for some reason couldn't do it though.

Eh I'm not sold on Ron hunter. If you saw his team play this year they weren't all that great

Hunter has to prove that he can win without his son, though I think GSU will do much better next year. As a GSU alum, I wouldn't have been disappointed but not too mad about him going to Tech.

Are y'all ever gonna have a general education major or at least drop the calculus requirement for everyone?

I'm not a fan of the hire at all. GT is my second favorite team and I almost transferred there instead of UF.

Nope. Management and a few other majors can now take A Survey of Calculus as opposed to Calc 1.

I'm okay with the hire. Not like I know a ton about the guy, but if he can recruit like people say, let's get some damn talent in McCamish! I could care less if the Memphis fan base thinks we are doing them a favor. They seem pretty delusional.

Looks like we are getting him for cheap which is really really good. We're already paying two coaches not to coach here.

Umm Pastner hasn't been able to recruit for shite these last few years. Only high level kid he has gotten recently was Dedric Lawson and Pastner had to hire his father as an assistant to get him.
