Just another reason I don't go to California. How much will a Big Mac cost now?

The increase will boost the wages of about 6.5 million California residents, or 43% of the state’s workforce, who earn less than $15, according to worker group Fight for $15.

Wow. That's an insane number that earn less the $15 per hour. So instead of going out and getting a degree or learning a trade they just simply complain until they get more money for working at a fast food restaurant. Nice.

Look at the bright side, maybe all the minimum wage earners in Louisiana will just move to Cali.

Under California’s plan, its minimum wage, currently one of the highest in the nation at $10 an hour, would rise to $10.50 in 2017, $11 in 2018 and a dollar each year through 2022.

$2k+ a year raise for every FTE employee. Amazingly dumb.

Good. The San Fran rent threads are pretty high in entertainment value.

Will businesses with large amounts of minimum wage workers not just move to a neighboring state?

Minimum wage shouldn't exist at all, but that's another argument all together.

It's probably not too much of a problem in most cities in California, but the rural areas will get hammered. If this happened in Louisiana it cripple most small sub 20 employee businesses.

Can they just change "minimum wage" employees to like a base salary of $20k?
(20k is essentially about $10/ hour)

Hi.

My name is economics.

No one in California had ever met me. They might have heard of me, but they never took the time to study or learn about me.

They are in desperate need of an expert on me though.

Good news, really. People will realize how much small things such as fast food will end up costing.

It'll either lose people jobs (by replacing them with machines), or the price will skyrocket.

if I lived in California, I'd work there and spend all the money in Oregon, Nevada, Arizona.

There's a ripple effect into salaried people here.
As of now the Fair Labor Standards Act requires a minimum weekly full-time salary set at least at $455 to qualify for an exemption under the act.*

As minimum wages rise, this number will too. So businesses will be looking to out-source jobs & responsibilities that they did in-house.

If the Federal Minimum Wage rose 40% tomorrow and forced this $455 to be $637, I know of three people who would be looking for work.
