their roles also changed from where they were at their peak. demps moved inside to pure striker and badley plays up as an AM

Players often move up the field when they are playing down in competition. The problem for Clint and Bradley is that they aren't very good at striker and AM in particular, because the things that made them most effective, timing and late runs, are mitigated by the lack of space. When Clint played so well at Fulham, he was a late-arriving LM who played as a weird auxiliary no. 10/no. 9. He also scored some spectacular goals, particularly his goals against Stoke and Juventus.

Bradley at his best is a CM whose defensive work rate is helps his offensive game, since it basically forces him to make late runs into certain areas. The best example (off the top of my head) of this is the 2nd goal against Slovenia in 2010.

Landon was, by far, the most creative player we've ever had. The fact we limited him to a right midfield role was our downfall and benefit, as the RM role was the only way he could co-exist with Clint coming inside.

The problem with Clint and Bradley ultimately is that they could either be big time players on small teams, or bit part players on bigger teams, neither of which ensure a solid salary.

It's also my contention that they've devolved because Klinsmann has no clue about tactics, and thus causes the whole team to play tentatively.

No one would now the F Lalas was.

Landon Donovan is 50x more known. Laughable to say otherwise, on any universe.

if your arguing casual fan and a particular goal now. I'd argue more people would remember jermaine jones goal versus Portugal as winning considering 16.1 million more people in USA actually saw it

quote:

USA: Portugal game was most watched football match ever on US TV, higher than any of NBA Finals and higher than average of 2013 World Series 2013 (ESPN, UNIVISION: 24.7 million combined)

USA-Algeria ESPN/Univision 8.6 million

USA Algeria Nelson rating

Would you say it's laughable that her main jones is 16.1 million times more well known than LD?

And I'd argue more people remember John Anthony Brooks' goal vs. Ghana over Jermaine Jones' goal.

But Landon Donovan's fame/legacy is more than one goal. He's got plenty of moments that make him famous. The Algeria goal is just the biggest.

I think your understanding of math is a little bit off.

Understanding of math is about as good as my grammar/spelling. If your going to argue so and so has done more to bring a casual fan to watch more soccer it wouldn't be a player. It be the media. But if you would have to pick someone with the team I'd argue Klinsmann. He has the most diverse group of players being watched my the largest audience. If you are wanting to argue which player I think you would have to argue someone not like LD who is white gifted and from Cali which already has soccer fans. I think players not white and not from Cali have brought more casual fans into watching. I grew up in the south and played with or against 1 minority that was not Latin before I went to college. That's games in TX. LA. AL. MS. FL and MO that I can remember. I live in the north now and my kids have played against or with 1 non Latin minority. That's county LA. AR. IA MO. and IL. I bet the majority on this board are white. So if you think who's brought this sport to a larger audience and look at TV viewing and drawing more casual fans who have never seen soccer before I'd argue against LD

Jack Nicklaus has won more majors(LD has more goals). But Tiger (insert many other players not named LD) where watched by a larger and more diverse audiences.

16.1million more people saw his goal. Not counting all the replays in sports center and all the people in pubs and parks and stadiums watching them. Think back to 2002 and LD's tap in gime. Remember stadiums and city parks jammed with people watching. I don't even remember the pub I was in being overly crouded. I didn't even know LD still played until I pulled up his wiki page to see where he was born. I get more casual Fans asking me about that guy who was suppose to USA next Pele. referring to Freddy Adu

16.1 million more does not equal 16.1 million times more. That's simple math.

Yes

Of course you do, because LD is a known entity and was one of the faces of US soccer for 10 years. They are asking about a 26 year old that plays in the NASL and has only played 17 games for the US (with the last one being in 2011) and none of them were memorable.

A ton. A lot more than those that could remember Jermaine Jones' name.

Probably because it was during the day and people have to work.

Sportscenter didn't begin in 2014. If you don't think LD's goal in 2010 wasn't the lead on sportscenter that night (and the next 2-3 nights), then you didn't own a TV back then.

Can anyone give me an argument on how more Nonsoccer players know about LD? I get he's really good and everyone that knows anything about soccer knows him but he apparently is now is retired. Do non soccer fans watch old reruns of the 2010 World Cup or la Galaxy games to know who he is?

Endorsement deals, TV spots, Sports Illustrated covers, ESPN commercials, etc. You know, the same way everyone else gets know. Hell, he was on the cover of at least one FIFA game

Landon (who is at the forefront) , Clint, Howard and Bradley will likely be talked about as the core that made soccer a big deal here in the States.

Three had somewhat successful careers in Europe, while Landon established the MLS here at home.

I won't be surprised at all if Landon has somewhat of a Michael Jordan-esque reputation to him in 10-15 years.
