RALPH & KACOO'S HUSH PUPPIES
2 1/2 c. cornmeal
1 1/2 c. flour
1 tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. baking soda
1/8 tsp. red pepper
2 tsp. baking powder
1/8 tsp. garlic powder
1 tbsp. chopped green onions
1 c. evaporated milk
3/4 c. water
1 egg, beaten
1 tsp. chopped parsley
Oil for deep frying
Mix all dry ingredients in a large bowl. Add onion, milk, water, eggs and parsley and blend well. Refrigerate until ready to use. Heat oil. Spoon batter into oil, frying until golden brown. Makes 30-40 hush puppies.
I found this on cooks.com. I think that was a misprint on 1/4 tsp soda!

Yeah I'm thinking that was a misprint. I just copied what was in the cookbook. I do know though that Ralph used a ton more sugar in the original recipe than what is called for in the cooks recipe. That may be their "newer" version of the hush puppies. But the recipe in the book that I posted (minus the error on the baking soda) is the one Ralph came up with when they were on False River years ago. I would imagine the sugar won't affect much of anything but flavor though.
