Thank you for your time.

I'd love to. Midland has a rich history. European settlers in the late 1500s named it after the Spanish word "Le Midland" meaning "middle of the land".

The good news: Midland has had money for a hundred years, so there are good restaurants and bars. The streets are good, the airport isn't terrible, the hotels are fine. It's not totally blue-collar, hell, they have a Polo club.

The bad: it is fricking HOT. The service industry is less than great (all the smart folk are in the oil field), there are no trees, and God help you if you actually have to venture outside of Midland. That's some No Country For Old Men shite.

Great bar: The Blue Door. Pro tip - get food brought in from Bill's Bistro a few doors down. From my very limited experience this is where the "young professionals" hang out after work.
Great Mexican: Cancun downtown.
Decent Steak: Wall Street Bar & Grill
Good casual food but shite service: The Bar
Worth a drive, probably: The Barn Door

The mountains of the Alpine/Ft Davis/Marfa area are not too far away....maybe 3 hours. Beautiful country down there. Alpine is at 5000 ft. If I was stuck in Midland I would make that trek often.

My cousin and his wife were living in Alaska while he was working on a major project for Marathon. After it was finished, they asked him if he would move down to Midland/Odessa for another project.

He and his wife flew down, took a look around, said "Hell no", jumped back on the plane and headed back to Alaska.
