Obviously the answer is Austin with Dallas coming in second and Houston 3rd but make the case for either of the 3.

Most Texans would say Austin. Houston or Dallas would depend if they live in/are from Houston or Dallas.

Austin is the best city but has the worst residents.

Houston has the best residents.

Austin is the best city. DFW is the best metro area.

Austin was probably cool 15 years ago but now it's a yuppie haven with godawful traffic and overpriced real estate.

I prefer Houston to Dallas of the remaining choices here.

I live in Dallas but could be happy in all three cities. And I am talking about living in the core of the city. If you have to go to the burbs then I can't help you.

Odessa and Amarillo belong in the conversation. And Pfleugerville.

I really like Austin but...

It's Dallas for me.

It doesn't have the natural beauty of the Hill Country but it's mapped out so much better than Austin it isn't close when it comes to getting around. Dallas has better highways, far better public transportation options, two major airports that are easy to get to, 5 pro sports teams, multiple nearby lakes, just as many if not more quality food options, and a more diverse economy.

Houston... not really a fan. Reminds me of if you took the worst aspects of LA, NOLA and Atlanta and then sucked all the fun out of them.

Depends on what you want.

I've never had a terrible time in Austin. That city always has something interesting going on.

The suburbs of all three are basically all the same.

But in terms of the actual CITIES? One of these is not at all like the others!

There are almost no minorities in the actual city of Austin and almost no crime.

The roadway system is terrible. It's not a "system" at all, which is the problem.

But living a life without poors and without crime... it's incredible. Austin is like the 1950s in the sense that you don't even have to lock your doors. You can't fully appreciate the difference unless you've lived it. I'll take the traffic for the complete absence of diversity... it's well worth it.

How come San Antonio isn't included in this? All my friends that have visited there say it's great.
