While censorship is bad, especially the way it is used in China, it is in no way at the level of what the FBI is asking Apple to do here in America.

Apple's stand against this is great PR for them, but is also them taking a stand for the privacy of the American people.

Apple made a business decision and did not create software that weakened their security.

If the Feds want in the phone it's their right but they shouldn't be able to force people to write software for them.

If the Chinese people do not care about their "rights" then why should I?

So you also have a problem with Microsoft, Twitter, Facebook, Google, as well as numerous other companies.

Twitter, Facebook, and Google are all blocked in China because they won't confirm to the demands of the government. I visit this place 3 to 4 times a year. I have to have a VPN to connect to social media.

Using a flawed mainstream media article to (tentatively) propose that maybe it's not so bad if our overreaching government gets one more consideration to potentially reach further into our lives. For our safety, of course.

Great job, OP! Great job, Tigerdroppings!

I didn't propose a fricking thing and I don't agree with the US Govt reaching any further into our lives. If that's what you think of me then all that proves is you don't know jack shite. If anything I think Apple should be telling the Chinese govt. to frick off in the same manner they're telling the US Govt.

But they are two different things. Backdoor access is different from what they are doing in China. Pretending they are the same thing makes it appear as if Apple is being inconsistent. If they were to allow backdoor access in China, and not in the US, I might be more willing to listen to the hypocrisy claims. As it stands they are not related, unless the comparison is about how Apple is treating each respective governments.

I guess I should have realized that from your posting of a pro government, anti Apple article with no additional commentary.

ETA: Second paragraph deleted because it was kind of douchey of me.

Google actually loses billions of dollars annually by not having any of its services in China. There is no Gmail, YouTube, Google maps , Google search or Google play on any of the 100s of millions of android phones in China.

They actually have morals and pulled their services instead of caving to the Communists Chinese government's censorship of the internet.

While Apple does have a responsibility to its share holders to maximize profit ,you have to ask what you are willing to compromise for money.

Shame on Apple and Kudos to the other billion dollar tech conglomerates whom have not caved to the Communists.

The one thing I hate about capitalism is that everything is for sale even morals and integrity can be purchased if the price is right.
