I see this post from Courtyard Brewery today,
How does a Brewers Guild help reduce the barriers? Is it because it is like a union?

While interest in Louisiana-brewed beer increases every day, we are also seeing increasing barriers to entry into the market and potentially stifled industry growth. We need your help to fund a viable craft brewer's guild in Louisiana and will be reaching out soon in order to show you how you can become involved. Thank you for continuing to support Louisiana beer.

Guess to remove restrictions in order to make it easier to produce, bottle, and serve beer?

Just guessing but, yeah I'd bet. I'm sure B or boo could elaborate

Yeah, they want to change the laws to remove restrictions. I think the main thing (or one of) is to allow some level of self-distribution.

Fighting the same thing in MS

Ever see how much Schilling Distributing and their family members donate to State Legislators in Louisiana.
Schilling even hosts fundraising parties.

Lobbying.
Doesn't LA already have a brewer's guild?

Yep. Lobbyist friends have told me that the Beer Industry League basically decides what the legislature is going to to with respect to beer laws. I've communicated with them and presently they are not in favor of supporting a change to the self-distribution laws. We have work to do.

Yes. So this is a bit odd. Not sure if courtyard is looking to start a new guild to represent breweries their size or just raising money for the current guild. I know that courtyard hasn't always agreed with the rest of the guild, especially the larger players. So idk

Sucks in so many ways that this is the route they feel forced to take. fricking state.

Knowing that they have one the use of "viable" makes it seem they disagree with the direction of the current guild.

Without speaking for Scott at Courtyard, I imagine he'd like to be able to somehow distribute his beers, but the current laws don't allow for that.

They should reach out to Scott Metzger of free tail brewing in San antonio. He was instrumental in getting TX beer laws changed. He seems like a great guy and my guess is he would be happy to consult with them in lessons learned.

I would think this is his angle. And not even on a large scale, just to a few of the places he hangs out at when not at work.

Exactly. He doesn't have enough beer to distribute on a large scale anyway.

It would be nice to see the brewpubs be able to do some self-distribution from time to time. Old Rail popping up on tap around town every now and then would be a welcome sight.
I don't think Old Rail even kegs their beer though?
