How much do you pay for health insurance?

So I’m helping a relative who was recently laid off and looking at medical insurance options in BR. Essentially the cheapest plan per healthcare.gov is a BCBS policy that $447 something a month and has a $13,500 family deductible, $4,500/person. From what I can tell pays nothing until deductible is met. So you pay $447/month for the right to pay full price.

I complained about mine but at least it had a copay. I feel for him. My policy sucks but this is outrageous as a society that one is forced to pay nearly $500/month for basically catastrophic coverage. If you make $50k/year, you are forced to pay basically 40% of your income to federal taxes and healthcare, assuming you use it. This is just terrible policy.

healthcare.gov is a disgrace, I have known people that looked into it and it was double what they were paying.

healthcare.gov is only helpful if you don't make any money.

Tell your relative to just go to the ER when he's sick. That way it's free for everyone.

$325/month

$2,800 deductible, 100/80 coverage.

Individual policy, self employed.

eta: HDHP, so no copay. Out of pocket until deductible is met, which I use my HSA for.

I don't pay anything monthly. I don't know the details but I occasionally have a small copay for meds or DR visits.

I just looked it up, $300 annual deductible for my family.

You are reading it wrong. They still only pay the copay amount before they reach the deductible.

All the while, certain groups of citizens get their medical care for free. Go figure.

I feel for you Chunky, that is a terrible policy for that amount of money. Basically the gov is going in dry. I am retired Air Force so we pay $0 (wife and I) with a $300 deductible and 80/20 after that. We will be paying $228 a month for our youngest daughter while she is still in college when she turns 23 this summer. All in all not bad.

I'm now at $771/month. Single, self employed so I have no real option to Obamacare. Sucks. In Florida so costs are higher. And I just read that my insurance provider loses money on these policies so they are trying to discourage people from signing up. It shows in their terrible web site and horrible customer service. Just all around awesomeness that only the government can attain.

That's Obama. My wife and I have a similar problem. Don't go to the dr, no kids, >500/month and $6000 deductible.... F'n absurd.

We pay about $130/month through my wife's employer for us and our daughter. They cover hers 100% and then something like 80% for family. We have a $1500/person deductible but a $2500 max out of pocket for the family. Pretty good plan if you ask me. I work for a much smaller company so I can't even get a plan for myself that is half as good for twice what it costs for me and our daughter on hers.

Nothing. My company pays 100% for individual and family as well as 100% dental. Bad arse plan too
