Who is better, how is it set up, etc.

UIL = public schools plus a few private schools that have attendance zones, and some charter schools.
There are two or three private school associations.
The public schools are better at everything.

Texas Publics actually provide a quality education which lessens the need for Private Schools.

Public schools are better because of the way taxes are set up. No state income tax, no tax at the grocery store. It's all property taxes and they stay in your community for the most part. If you're paying 6-7k in property taxes, and you have a great school to attend, there's no need to send your kid to a private school. Louisiana's taxes all go to Baton Rouge, corrupt politicians squander them.

Public schools are significantly better. I want to say there are a handful of private schools that produce some good athletes (especially in basketball), but outside of that it is really weak competition

There are some private schools that produce good athletes like Jesuit and Pius, but the public schools in DFW, Houston and East Texas dominate this state.
