I've followed this thread from the beginning, and for awhile, there was telling conversation. This issue has two very distinct sides. The simple fact of the matter is that, as is the case with pretty much everything else in life, there is going to have to be compromise from both of those sides to gain any headway. This is a very real problem with very real effects for a lot of people. I don't particularly like the idea that 40 years from now, 90% of the area I fish could be gated. I also understand the plight of the landowner, and it's an unfortunate situation to be in. That being said, people find themselves in unfortunate legal situations over which they have zero control all the time. This issue is the type of legal issue that directly affects every single one of us that enjoys being in the marsh.

The idea of the Louisiana marsh being like the Everglades is both awesome and ridiculous. That'll never happen.

Major thread player comments:

Alx - solid, accurate points about the law. You should buy Barf a Peroni. He's a rich a-hole that probably likes the crisp Tuscan taste of Italian brews.

Barf - solid points about the glaring inconsistencies and the rampant burial of heads in marsh mud. You should buy Alx a Bud Ice. I think that's what people from Alexandria drink, and Alx could reminisce on intimate times with certain other Alexandria residents/family members.

ST - It's really narrow minded to say "this is the problem" or "that is the problem." There are dozens of problems here, all of which contribute to the much larger issue. Your generalizations are dumb. You sound like you're zero fun to be around/totally incapable of carrying on intelligent conversation. You should repeatedly take shots of Jack Daniels at the same bar where Alx and Barf are drinking their beers and shout generalizations in an increasingly obnoxious way. I think Alx and Barf will eventually come together and pour their beers on your head. There's nothing quite like the combination of a crisp Tuscan lager and the incestual flow of Bud Ice to bring people with differing viewpoints together.

TL;DR: good points Alx and Barf. ST, meh.

Well seeing as I'm the only one of the 3 with skin in this game you can piss off. I could write a novel about the things I've seen trespassers do in the marsh. Boats stuck, running into shite, breaching levees, accidental shooting deaths, burning marsh to rabbit hunt and even cutting trees down to create more sac a lait holes on our property.

I'll be in the corner, drinking Colorado cool aid and talking about scummy lawyers and bass-holes.

This sums it up. I'd love for it all to be state land and everyone have rights to it. But that's just not the case and I don't think it's fair for the government to step in and say the people open up their private property so the public can use it.

We've been using our marsh as if it's state owned waters when it isn't and never has been. Just because we've been doing it, doesn't make it right. I get the frustration, but we shouldn't change laws just because people don't want to follow them since they never did before.

I totally understand the canals being detrimental to the marsh and erosion, but two wrongs don't make a right.
