If it wasnt for Gambling, Fantasy football, Daily Fantasy football, and Office pools, the ratings would be in the tank. For christs sake, they had to go from ABC to ESPN for Monday night football, because ratings were shite.

And for a sport that only has 8 home games, nearly half the teams can't even fill their stadiums.

They built a brand new stadium in San Fran, and they stopped going in year 2 of subpar football. For christs sake, 2 years in.

It's partially on coaching, not a lot of good coaches out there after the top10-15. retreads who lose at every stop. And retread fricking city for mediocre coords.

I've been calling it the Mediocre Football League for years, and i think i'm giving them too much credit with the Mediocre tag

LOL only 11 out of 21 teams could even sell out for 8 games. horrible

Well, when the cost of attendance prices out 80% of NFL fans, it is kind of hard to attend games in person.

Dude, thats a cop out

If you can't get, in cities of multi millions, 60-70K people, to buy tickets to 8 games, it says a whole lot about ur product.

It is much easier and cheaper to watch an NFL game from your own living room. Yet greed for ever greater amounts of $ are beginning to ruin that aspect of the NFL.

What does it say about the product? I love NFL football but I have no desire to actually go to the games.

Just not into it like I was 5-10 years ago.
I think this board is running into a false narrative. I would say a majority of this board is around 26-35, meaning the bar hopping no responsibility vegging out on only sports days are somewhat over. Our life has now been filled with other/more important things to fill our time. It is clear by the factual data that the NFL product is not getting worse according to viewership and money.

Yup. I would only go to a game if I was given tickets. The prices are unreal. Plus there are so many more things to do than to go to a football game. It was great back 25-30 years ago. Now it's just decent entertainment. The college game is much more entertaining imo.

The NFL absolutely loves parity. They want to keep the teams very close, competitively speaking. And they have done a damn good job of it too. Just think, how many teams have been able to call themselves a "dynasty" in history. Dolphins back in the 70s and the Bills when they went to 4 straight Super Bowls, and they couldnt even win one. They "punish" the winners by giving them the worst draft picks. And then in college you have more teams win a ton at a time, simply because they will always bring in the best recruiting classes.

Well there are more options in watching college games. The rules and such make the nfl players look like robots. I don't like the nfl enough to pay for extra games. The college game is more wide open to me. I still watch the nfl but don't go out of my way like I used to.

1. The amount of commercials is so astounding. I read somewhere that in the 3 and a half hours of broadcast in a game, only 16 minutes of it is actual gameplay. The rest is huddling, setting the ball, etc. This could literally happen in a game:

This is why I would recommend the Red Zone Channel.

I got the RZC several years ago and loved it.

Problem now is, I get to see the BS from all of the games around the league.

The OP is right: The NFL shows its hand early in the year on who the favored teams are. This is very WWE-like, which has turned me off to the NFL. For example, anyone who has paid attention this year knew AZ would make the playoffs. The NFL has helped that team in several games this year, just as they help Seattle when they play at home. It is unbearable at times how obvious it is.

I still play Fantasy Football, but due to my interest in the sport waning, my FF teams are shite. I don't win money in FF, I'll just quit paying attention all together. LOL

Another aspect of the NFL I can't stand is now they are starting to insert politics into the coverage. I could do without that too.

It's too easy to throw the ball now, look at how today's QBs stack up against the All timer great passers. All of these current QBs are top 10 in all time passer rating:

Rodgers
Wilson
Romo
Manning
Brady
Brees
Rivers
Roethlisberger

8 of the 10 top passer ratings of all time are current players.

The NFL shits on college, every year

We had like 2-3 watchable bowl games, yet the NFL playoffs have been outstanding outside of ONE game.

Isn't the NFL at an all time high in popularity, especially compared to other major sports?

The NFL isn't terrible but it's much worse than it was.

The rule changes concerning "safety" have watered down the game significantly.

And the quality of qb play is horrible. You have like 10 good-great qbs and the rest are average at best.
