Going the virtuoso versus band route always stirs up conversation in solo talks since there's a usually different focus in the goal or audience of the music.

My favorites.

Lonely in the Night - Eric Johnson
Fade to Black - Metallica
Sultans of Swing - Dire Straits
Blackbird - Alter Bridge
FreeBird
Mr Crowley

I prefer Jump to Eruption for melody and emotion

Not a true solo, but the second half of "Hitch a Ride" by Boston is incredible.

I'm not wandering down the whole subject path of 10 greatest, but for the last 6 months or so, I've been calling the outro solo to Ryan Adam's "The Shadowlands", played buy Greg Lesiz, my favorite solo. The phrasing and the tone are spot on perfect, in my opinion. Sick player. Solo begins at about 3:35, though it's best heard in context.

On the Turning Away - Pink Floyd. Maybe not top 10 but definitely underrated. A beautiful, emotionally moving song with an incredible guitar solo.

John Frusciante - Wayne

Basically one big long guitar solo that John recorded for a dying friend who loved long guitar solos.

Yeah to me it could be any number of things that Jimmy Page did. I get amused by people who get all bent out of shape by Page's arguably sloppy way of playing but that stuff always hit me just right.

To me he was one of the originators of playing guitar to achieve sound and create excitement as opposed to trying to play all neat and tidy and by-the-book.

His stuff always sounded kind of demented to me. Kind of evokes images of dancing in a way that seems like stumbling and falling but with a strange sense of grace.

It's a controlled sloppy. It takes a lot of skill to play that sloppily.

Although they were not as sophisticated as the masters, Ace Frehley on Detroit Rock City and Shout it out Loud were pretty cool.

Jimmy Page acoustic jam with Bohnam drumming on Thank you. Tangerine is simple, but awesome.

Lindsey Buckingham Was underrated. Never going back again is just perfect.

Monte Montgomery, in my opinion, is one of the best to date!

This is one my favorite guitar of all time.

Glen Campbell - "Gentle On My Mind".

Good god, what talent. Makes me smile. No wonder he was on The Wrecking Crew.

La villa Strangiato - Alex Lifeson

I was going through the thread to see if this one was mentioned yet. One of my favorites!

Glen Campbell

I have his 1969 live album on vinyl. He covers a lot of songs on the album but it's damn good. There a several videos of it on YouTube - hard to find the album itself.

His covers of White Lightning (damn the guitar!!) and Wonder's For Once In My Life are good.
