During the whole Miles saga I read many posters saying that LSU needs to make the move to return the football program to the days of being elite.

Now, I know some people are going to accuse me of not being a true fan for this question, but when was LSU elite and how are you defining elite? Which coach was that under?

I am serious, because when I think back over the history of LSU football I don't see a program that is elite at any point for a sustained period. I see periodic elite years (most owned by Miles and Saban) but I do not see a program that can be reasonably called consistently elite.

Flame away...

Between 2001 and 2011 we won the west 5 times and played in BCS Bowls 5 times with 2 NC and 1 NC Game. That's elite.

Since 2011 we have never won the west or sniffed a BCS/NY6 Bowl Game.

LSU isn't an elite "team" but it is an elite "program".

We have the facilities, amenities, money, training, brand, recruiting base...you name it, LSU has it.

It's why we're discussing firing a coach who, essentially, went 9-3 this season.

We expected more because we can achieve more.

The program is elite, Les Miles is not.

2003-2007 we were most definitely elite.

2 National Championships in that span confirm that.

2001-2007 we were "elite"

We had possibly the greatest regular season ever in 2011.

LSU football as we know it died on 1/9/12 at approx 8:15 pm.

It's true.

Worked all offseason, with basically the same core of players from the 2011 team, to prove that 1/9 was somewhat of a fluke. Outplayed them, and then they stole it back in a handful of plays.

Nov. 3, 2012 was the last day of the Golden Age of LSU football. It ended on that screen pass.

Man, I remember walking out the superdome, feeling confused.
I walked out Tiger Stadium heartbroken and its never been the same.

It definitely died on that screen pass.

Lsu Lay has never been elite. Very good for a season or three. They are a good and popular program. Yes they could have been elite had Saban stayed. Miles is a decent coach and basically always has been. There is not a program in the country that gets so much talent that underachieving more than lsu. Lsu has everything to offer for the players and fans. Great facilities and an awesome place to tailgate. Networks love to come here. It's a shame that the stadium is half empty by the early third quarter unless the game is real close or its bama or fla. there is no way ole miss is 38-17 better talent wise than lsu.
