I may be wrong. He was at LSU from 2000-2004 and then at Alabama from 2007 to today, so a total of about 12 years in SEC play, and he has 9 division titles.

You have no argument without it haha.

I'm not on either side, I'm just saying Miles' supporters do not have an argument about him being elite.

Correct.

He's won the West exactly half of the time, which is awesome. But 9 out of 11 is way off.

You made it clear he was part of the elite years at LSU, but the elite years died out pretty fast.

He is not an elite coach man. Do you think the last two years that lsu has been even close to elite???? I am tired of talking about what he has done in the past. The last two years is proof enough to me that he is not elite. Watch how motivated this team comes out against tech. An elite coach would have them fired up. But they will come out flat and unmotivated. Book it.

i've seen 4 coaches named that have accomplished the same or more than Miles since he's been here...and i would say they're pretty good company to have.

And you are 100% correct, sir. I like Miles', but unfortunately I think his best years are behind him and there is nothing wrong with that. He has had a very good career and will always be remembered as one of the best, if not the best, coaches in LSU history.

So far I have:

Saban
Meyer
Jimbo
Stoops
Dabo

Personally, right now, I think Brian Kelly is a better coach than Les Miles.

Chip Kelly wasn't there long but he did well at Oregon...then the NFL came calling. Funny CLM has never been hired away by the NFL

Between 2001 and 2011 we won the west 5 times and played in BCS Bowls 5 times with 2 NC and 1 NC Game. That's elite.

Since 2011 we have never won the west or sniffed a BCS/NY6 Bowl Game.

This! LSU was at one point the top NCAA program in the nation during 2000s. The first to win two BCS titles. Miles was 5-1 in his first 6 bowl games at LSU, with a loss to Penn State on a sloppy field. A game LSU should have won. Among the 5 wins were blowouts of Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Georgia Tech and Texas A&M. People were saying give Miles a month to prepare and he will destroy his opponent. Les was 4-2 versus Alabama. LSU was top dog.

Then LSU hit the skids with Les Miles. That abortion of a BCS championship game seemed to be the point the program started a rapid slide. Miles is 1-3 in his last four bowl games. He is 0-5 against Bama, 1-3 vs. Miss and 2-2 vs Ark. His SEC record has declined each year, except the last. The program is an afterthought. It is headed to the Texas Bowl to play Texas Tech. Based on the last 4 bowl games Texas Tech is a serious threat to win this game. WOW how far have we fallen.

The good news is Les is a good coach. He needs to understand that major changes need to be made. His offense and QB development must change. He must develop an adequate passing attack to support the run. He must use his early games to develop that passing attack and QB. He must become less conservative and predictable. He must be able to adapt on the fly if his game plan isn't working. He must attack his opponents weakness rather than always trying to out-muscle opponents which works against inferior opponents but fails miserably against strong quality opponents. He must modernize his offense.

And this is what we are gonna get from now on as long as Miles continues to coach the way he has the last few years.....

Name a team that was more elite from 2001 through 2011. The entire stretch. Not just 3 or 4 years. There isn't one

No. I would not take 15 years of anything and label it "elite". To me elite is a much longer term thing.

Look, I agree LSU has had some great years and since 2011 things have been sub-standard. I also think the early draft attrition has as much to do with our current state of affairs as Miles' coaching abilities (or inabilities depending on how you view him).

When I look at Miles' body of work at LSU I see a very good overall record. I see periods of ebbs and flows.

If you ask me about elite programs in the country in no particular order I would say schools like Notre Dame, Alabama, Texas, Oklahoma, USC, and Michigan to me it is schools with more than 3 - 4 titles all time.

If you narrow it to your window of since 2000 it is probably only Alabama as an Elite program. That is likely the biggest problem for many except they won't admit it. Alabama and Nick Saban are at an unbelievable level right now. It is like they are immune to the parity brought about with the scholarship limits.
