Rational Speculation: Harris was injured during the Alabama game

During the first seven games, Harris improved dramatically.

His efficiency was, except for one game, an unbroken upward trend.

His completion percentage in all four SEC games was over 64%.

Like his QB Rating, his yards per attempt were skyrocketing up. The increase in YPA more than offset, and probably was the organic cause of, the decrease in completion percentage as those two numbers typically show an inverse relationship.

Everything was showing improvement and development.

During and after the Alabama game, his numbers regressed.

During and after the Alabama game, his mechanics showed a marked decrease in proper footwork resulting in sailing pass attempts.

During and after the Alabama game, LSU ran fewer options and designed runs in which Harris was the likely or intended ball carrier.

It seems rational to deduce that Harris was injured during the Alabama game and that the injury affected Harris's passing and running production and altered LSU's play calling in the back end of the season.

It's also rational to deduce he couldn't handle the better defenses on our schedule.

You're assuming that Arkansas has a good defense.

They do not.

Um...
I'm going to go with the "better defenses" theory.
I don't know...because facts and stuff.

I do think he suffered a sprained knee against Alabama.

I'll add that it's also rational to deduce that we were outcoached later in the season when our offensive patterns started to become more apparent. Good coaches look for tendencies and make adjustments, ours don't for the most part. I'd be willing to bet that if most of my friends can call which play is coming next ~50% of the time then Smart, Chavis, and Arky/OM's DC's can too

That would be important info if we had any way of knowing this for sure.

Florida has the best defense other than Alabama

I would say Florida was the best D he faced probably the best secondary. He looked fine then. Something happened coaching, injury, but probably confidence is the main thing.

Your "facts and stuff" theory, although showing tremendous analysis with an incredible foundation of . . . "facts and stuff," don't explain "a marked decrease in proper footwork resulting in sailing pass attempts" or a decrease in "options and designed runs in which Harris was the likely or intended ball carrier."

Arkansas has the No. 3 rushing defense in the SEC, just behind Bama and FL, and just ahead of LSU.

Harris struggled because LSU played against some of the best rushing defenses in the country in Nov, and he couldn't carry the offense.

Was there a play where he got hit and came up a bit lame?

Did he ever look injured in that game?

If your theory is true, why did he look like crap from the get go? Hell, on our first drive he had LF wide open on a route out of the backfield with nothing in his way but a safety 10 yards away. And BH missed badly.

If your theory about injury was true, wouldn't it make more sense to claim that he got hurt the game before vs WKU?

If you mean his self confidence was injured, then I'd agree with that.

They were in the backfield the entire night.

Call it what you want, but that defensive line dominated us and had a real effect on the passing game.

He has a history of sailing passes since last year. That was nothing new.
And what do you know about his footwork? Have you been watching that every game and saw (with your keen coach's eye) something different after Bama?

The Bama game crushed his confidence. See also Lee, J.

I think Bama crushed Miles' confidence and the way the team played after was a reflection of that.
