My speculation on LSU's next coach.

Note: I am not an insider. I have no connections. I have followed the coaching carousel as a hobby for better than 20 years. What I am about to say is based on nothing more than experience, gut feeling, and guessing.
1. I think Miles is gone. I think LSU has his replacement in hand. You don't ask boosters to pony up 15 million bucks without knowing what the next step is. People with that kind of money don't buy a pig in a poke. They will want to know, "So, who's gonna replace him? And, how much is he gonna cost us?" before they write the check. You also don't treat Les the way he has been treated the last couple of weeks if you haven't already decided to fire him.
2. Negotiations for Miles replacement began (through agents, attornies, etc.) began several weeks ago. An agreement in principle, including virtually everything but signing the contract, has been reached.
2. I suspect the next coach will come from the following list (in no particular order): Jimbo Fisher, Hugh Freeze, Dan Mullen, Chip Kelly, Mike Gundy.
3. Those who know what is going on aren't talking. Those who are talking are just guessing.
4. I have no idea if Jimbo is the guy or not. If he is I suspect FSU will go after those same names I mentioned above. Personally, Hugh Freeze would be my top candidate.

chip kelly at FSU would be interesting, now wouldn't it?

Don't agree with Hugh Freeze being top candidate.

OP, conflict of interest. Your thread makes me feel better about Jimbo coming to BR.

Hugh freeze and Gundy aren't coming here and we don't want them

Neither do I...om was predicted to be an sec and nc contender...they are quite fortunate to not already have 4 losses. Its funny how some fans focus in on the issues at their own school but are blind to the obvious issues at other schools

None of those comes remotely come close to fitting LSU philosophy outside Jimbo Fisher. Terrible list. The sexy pick on paper doesn't mean they fit with LSU's program.

Chip Kelly is the guy. I don't know if they get him.

I really don't see the mystique of Hugh freeze.
he's like sumlin. Living off beating Bama.
2nd Bama win was the fluke of flukes.
He's prone to lose games like the Egg bowl this Saturday.

Like I said, I know nothing. Just guessing. I am not at all aware of the "LSU perspective."
For all I know they could be looking at Rich Rod (he first came into the spotlight by being Tommy Bowden's OC with an undefeated Tulane team, didn't he?). He could have some LSU connections.
It could be Mark D'Antonio. (Wouldn't Michigan State love losing another coach to LSU? )
It could be Gus Malzahn for all I know.
Just curious, if it isn't Jimbo, who are some guys that would seem to be a "fit" at LSU?

The first thing that jumped out at me concerning Hugh Freeze, is his eyes are kind of close together.

Tom Herman has the best resume by far. His offense rolled Bama nuff said.

Jimbo fits absolutely perfect with everything LSU wants and he's already well familiar with how the administration helps run the program. Fisher was their target and they weren't going to let him go because he's about as good as it gets for LSU on paper outside Saban which will never happen. It's not just about who's the sexiest pick out there but rather if a coach came come in, instill his philosophy immediately, mingle well with the administration, understand TAF and the boosters, etc.
Jimbo is perfect for virtually all of that. He's a winner and rebuilt a bad program as well as being one of the best recruiters in the country. Homerun hire if he ends up at LSU. I have questions about him but I'd be lying if I said we could do better.

As some have mentioned, the visible target is sometimes a smoke screen. Fisher also gave an interview the other day indicating how he and the players had something special here we are a family, we help each other become better at football, at life and being men etc.
The point is it just didn't sound like what Fisher would be saying if he were planning on skipping town soon. He is a very honest straight forward type person, not like some coaches.
So I have some doubts about all of this, but it could be possible. I am still wondering if one of the football moderators may be onto something when they say Gary Patterson is the real target. You know he wouldn't have to drive very far to reach Baton Rouge.
He is a candidate that could justify such a large buyout also.

Culture and experience-wise, I would say that Larry Fedora and Dan Mullen are the best fits besides Jimbo. Kyle Wittingham would get a look based on his Power 5 experience. Herman is a reach, but his resume and potential could justify a long look.
Gundy isn't really a bad fit, necessarily. He just won't come. That's his alma mater, he has job security, and a big-time sugar daddy funding his program.
Freeze is Les Miles 2.0. Go back and look at his 4th down calls this season. He single-handedly lost the Memphis game, and tried to give away the Arkansas (ended up losing anyway) and Bama games. He's a lifetime Black Bear, anyway. DO NOT WANT.You shouldn't want him, either.

He us a home run yet despite significantly more talent than virtually every team in the acc he is on the verge of losing 3 regular seasons games....hmmm who else has 3 reg season losses in a better conference? Lol
Y'all are blind to jimbo because of inferior competition he has faced..

A 247 insider said this "Notice that those who are truly tuned in have been pretty quiet" followed up by "good things are coming"

A Herman coached Houston is upsetting Navy and navy in some polls is around #13. It is on a composite of all ratings anyway. Pretty impressive, they are ploughing them.
