I don't think they're allowed to call her Ariel. Disney owns that name as it relates to The Little Mermaid.

Yeah, you're right. They're really going to have to beat around the bush in order for them to not get sued into an oblivion. I'm sure the lawyers are heavily on standby for this one. The original Snow White was a very straight up adaptation, to where you didn't really have to worry about the lawyers for the remake that much so long as you didn't use the characters costumes, looks, or the Dwarfs names.

But this is a lawsuit waiting to happen. I doubt the people at Disney are taking too kindly to this and are looking for just about anything that they can sue them for millions of dollars over. Seriously, no Flounder, no Ursula, no Sebastian, no Scuttle, no Eels. If they even get a hint that they took something as inspiration from the Disney version, they will be sued and likely win. Unless they've got a great story that they've somehow found to be in no way taking inspiration from the Disney version, I don't see how they won't have a lawsuit on their hands with this.

I doubt they have to worry about a lawsuit. This seems more like an adaptation of the original fairy tale, which has very little in common with the Disney version.
