2. A one-loss Alabama making the top four is a joke
No. 4 Alabama is the only one-loss team that cracked the committee’s top four, but its selection is a bit of a head-scratcher. The Crimson Tide lost to an Ole Miss squad that has since dropped two games of its own. Meanwhile, they boast only one win over another team in the current top 25 (No. 19 Texas A&M).

Is Alabama really a top-four team? Why is it better than No. 10 Florida, which is also 7–1 but lost to No. 2 LSU and beat the Ole Miss team that topped the Crimson Tide? At this point is feels like coach Nick Saban’s team isn’t penalized for losses like other programs. Alabama could go on to win the SEC title, but the selection committee is supposed to assess the landscape of the season up to this point. That’s why ranking the Crimson Tide as a top-four team at this juncture doesn’t pass the smell test.

It's our turn to shut the Gumps down once and for all this season. I can't take anymore of this

And shut the Media obsession down as well. But they will figure some way to get a 2 loss Bama team into the playoffs in the end. You watch.

My thread on the SECr from Monday
Makes 0 sense. There is no logical reason to put Bama #4. It validates that the committee is either biased or manipulates their rankings to generate TV ratings.

Well said, IMHO. They very well could win out and be more than deserving of a spot. But at this point, putting them in the top-4 is a joke. Classic Bama treatment.

I know LSU fans always like to consider where someone went to college when evaluating how well they do their job in an unbiased fashion (even if they are completely wrong about where that person actually went to college). With that in mind, consider where Zac Ellis went to college when determining his unbiased opinion of Bama.

For the record, it really doesn't matter to me where Bama was ranked. As long as it was top 10 all they have to do is win out and they'll be in playoff.

I agree with the folks saying it will play out but the rankings released last night indicate to me that the CFP committee is a horrible horrible group of people. Contradictions abound in their selection of Bama at #4.

I personally think it's premature to put Bama in the top four. However things will workout. Bama wins this weekend they deserve their spot. If they lose they are done.

Lots of shifting around between now and the end of the year.

The only time to be upset with this poll is the last one if your team gets bounced.

It really is. This "eyeball-test" BS is going to piss off the entire nation at some point, probably sooner than later.

Giving Bama a pass on their loss to OM because they pass the "eyeball test" is about as asinine as a hypothetical committee crowning USC the 2005 national champions because "well yeah Texas beat them, but it was only by 3 points. And they didn't have Reggie Bush in the game on 4th and 1. If they did, they probably would've gotten the first down and won the game. We just feel like they're still the best team."

The committee concept survived year 1 because the problem wasn't the inclusion of an undeserving team. It was that there was more than 4 deserving teams. I can't imagine what the revolt will look like when a team that is perceived by the country at large to be undeserving is selected.

Bama to the sports media is the same thing as Obama to the liberal left leaning media.

bama is in the top 4 because the SEC Network is a $3 billion a year business with ties to ABC and ESPN. bama is the SEC Network's flagship product. Like it or not, in ESPN and ABC's minds when they mention bama, they're really just promoting their $3B business. Money doesn't talk, it SCREAMS.

This is the one and only time you'll see me comment on a "but Bama is unfairly overrated"-type of thread, simply because:

Win on Saturday, and all of this stuff goes away until next season. Simple as that.

Playoff committee shows brand-name bias still in full effect with flawed first rankings
