M1A vs. 7.62 AR

I'm torn.
Pros and cons of both?
I'm leaning M1A at the moment. I know the AR platform is much easier to upgrade/sex up. Looking for opinions on accuracy, reliability, cost, etc.....
Thanks in advance

I know AR's in 7.62 used to be iffy on reliability. That may have changed though
I've heard good things about the DPMS recon G2.
I would probably go M1A. Heavier and more expensive but they sure do look nice.

It really depends on what you plan on doing with it and your personal shooting preferences. You'll have to be a little more careful with ammo selection for the M1A vs non-piston AR10's but it'll be more accurate than you with almost anything you feed it too.

How hard/easy is it to put a scope on an M1A?
I don't know the answer

Easy. SA, Fulton, Sadlak, and others make scope mounts for them. Another thing to consider is that M1A's are a little more involved in terms of working on them. Some special tools are required for things like removing the gas piston and muzzle device properly. You won't have to do that very often though, the guns run pretty clean and I've put about 500 rounds through mine with nothing more than wiping it down and running a flexible bore brush through it.

But yeah, depends on what you're planning to use it for. I'm assuming you've used an AR platform in general, have you ever used the M1A platform?

I was in the military and own an AR now. Have never fired the M1A platform before but I enjoy long distance shooting with iron sights.

Shoot one and you'll be looking to own one too.

I wouldn't put a scope on a m1a unless I had an adjustable cheek piece. Just can't get it close enough.
Now a scout/socom with a red dot is something I've always wanted.
If ultimate accuracy is your goal id get the ar, the m1a will just cost to much to equal the same perfomance.

If I go with the M1A I won't be putting a scope on it. If I go with the 7.62 AR I could see myself tricking it out over the years with all kinds of shite.
frick! I want both

M1A, but I am kinda biased...

Get the m1a and then just build the ar over time.
Sounds like the best to me.

Nostalgia? Sex appeal? How many people do you know that own a 7.62 AR? How many people do you know that own an M1A? What model are you considering? Scout, Standard, Match? Im jealous that youre even having to make the decision.
Posted on 10/9/15 at 9:29 pm to dnm3305
Well I'd like a match but I'll probably go with the standard or the loaded. The loaded is sort of in between the standard and match with a medium weight barrel and match trigger.

I think once you start getting into that price range, dont compromise at all. Save your money a little bit longer and get EXACTLY what you want. If you dont, you'll always think about upgrading.

Then you'll love the M1A.
Sometimes I think about scoping mine but when I get out there and nail targets with the irons I change my mind.
I have a standard model. I've shot my buddies Socom 16 and now I want one of those as well.
