Regarding the Oregon shooter and his message board posts the night before

I just heard someone say that the Oregon shooter was on a message board the night before the shooting. He said he was going to kill people the next day and message board posters encouraged him to do it.
Imagine if you were one of the assholes who (the night before) encouraged him to kill people and then the next day what you thought was a message board joke turned into a real life nightmare?
Be careful, people. It's the cool thing to be an internet a-hole and mock other message board users, but the Oregon shooter's message board confession and reactions to his confession demonstrates that being an internet bully/a-hole can backfire with frightening implications.
If the message board story is true, I believe the people who encouraged the shooter to kill share the burden of responsibility.

Fully agree. Just like the bitch that egged the guy on to commit suicide.

Disagree...it's not against the law to be an a-hole or a lot of us would be in jail.

Exactly.
Everyday on this board people post the most vile shite and laugh as if it's fricking the coolest thing. I imagine people snicker and think to themselves, "Man, I just showed that poster with my incredibly edgy DIAF, kill yourself post. frick yeah I'm awesome!"
You never know if the person you just told to kill themselves may actually be on the brink in real life.
frick those kind of posts.

Sure, it's not against the law. But people could do the right thing and not encourage someone to actually kill people.
Come on, dude.

I agree with ya

Come on what? You said they should bear the responsibility along with the a-hole shooter which implies they broke the law which they didn't.

I'm sure some random people on the internet telling him to do it was what set this in motion. Nothing in his head had anything to do with it, it was all someone else's fault.

I wouldn't be opposed to them prosecuting those posters who encouraged him
I don't even know if that's possible though

Agree 100%, but those kinds of people don't have a conscience, so short of pressing charges there are no repercussions for them.

What charges are you going to press?

Yes it happened. But the guy was posting on 4chan. It's not a board like TD. If someone posted this on TD the thread would have been whacked and the authorities would probably be notified.

You really don't believe that if he was wrestling with the moral dilemma of wanting to do it and was posting about it online that he was trying to get outside opinions on whether or not he should go through with it those encouraging him assisted his decision?

Go on 4chan.org /b/ right now and you will find at least 2 or 3 threads in which people contemplate suicide or allude to killing others.
There is literally a banner on the website he posted that says something to the effect of, "everything posted here is fiction and anyone who thinks otherwise is a fool."

I think you're treating this as if a rational person committed this crime.

Perhaps the burden of responsibility is simple: That these people should live a life of guilt for having encouraged someone to murder people. These people should view themselves as accomplices to murder even if the law doesn't.
"Burden of responsibility", in my opinion, is up for interpretation.

I heard an FBI profiler, I think, suggest that they(the message board posters) could potentially face charges if they knew anything about this guy specifically(i.e. his real name, where he lived, the place he was supposed to shoot up, etc...)

I read the thread. It really happened, but I doubt that anyone believed he was serious. This isn't the same situation that occurred with the girl who convinced her boyfriend to kill himself. She knew him, knew he was depressed, and still encouraged him to go through with it.
If someone posted on here that he was going on a first date with a girl and wanted ideas of what to do and posters responded PIIHB, would the OT be responsible if he (butt) raped the girl?
