I will quote my own standard answer on this topic...

quote:

Fournette is a freak. For every Fournette, there will be 100 that are not mentally or physically ready for the NFL that think they are. They will fail miserably and lose their college eligibility in the process.

Hell there are tons that come out too early NOW that fail because they aren't physically or mentally ready.

College is still mostly a bunch of big kids playing football. The NFL is full of grown MEN who are playing for their livelihood.

Indeed. If Tyrann could of he would of played. It killed him not being out there.

gurley almost got knocked out of first round last year with injury and he certainly lost money due to injury.

Gurley was drafted where a lot of people expected him to be. Hell there wasn't a rb drafted in first round the last two years and the three drafted in first round in 2012 are either out of the league or will be once their contract is up.

Mike Florio is a scumbag. one of the worst people I have ever met in my life. how NBC puts that fraud on the air blows my mind. What a joke and a plagiarizer at that

I hope he doesn't, but at the same time, he's an idiot if he doesn't. I would.

Why do they keep saying sit out 2016? Why don't they advocate him just quitting right now?

Would probably have been better had he not said this. Now when he leaves after his junior year, as he should, people will bring this up and try to turn it against him.

You can't be serious with that statement.

You will have a lot of great college players out of the game on the streets. Just because you are great in college doesnt mean you will even sniff the NFL. Some of these guys will be leaving school at 18 and 19

And?
What right do any of us have to make their decisions for them? Protecting them from themselves?

There is no freedom-respecting argument to be made in favor of it.

Y'all should just admit you are ok with restricting their freedom and treating them like dumb children.

PFT/NBC Sports just doubled down.. now attacking Michael Bonnette

quote:

But good luck making a business decision when employees of LSU will attack even mere question of whether a business decision should be made as an “insult” to the player.

First and foremost, he's not sitting out. Players want to play. Also, it's not the NCAA that's keeping him from going pro, it's the NFL. So Florio can take his snide shot at college fans and look in an f'n mirror.

However, I do wish Fournette could profit off of the obscene amounts of money that are being made off of him right now. We don't need to have schools paying players, but Fournette should be able to sign a shoe deal with Nike right now. Or at least do local ads for a Ford dealership or something.

I do think the larger debate is important: people should profit off of their own labor. If an engineering student patents something, he can make money off of it and not be kicked out of school or have his education somehow tainted. A business student can start a business and profit off that without society collapsing. The restraint on a player's earning is ridiculous and frankly, unamerican.

But asking Fournette to be your champion is wrong. It's not up to him to advance your agenda. He's a football player. He's gonna play. He's a person, not a cause.

I am ok with NFL owners protecting their investment by not opening up the draft to underdeveloped players and turning the draft into a guessing game of a teenager's future potential.

The owners have every right to protect their investment.

Oh shut up. We have a shite ton of rules that restrict peoples freedom because we are trying to protect them. I simply stated if they are going to go this route then just get rid of college football all together, let them sign pro contracts at a younger age. Like anywhere else in the world.

if LSU wins a NC this year, then there is no way LF should return. no reason to play for free. if LF wins Heisman, then 50/50 as to whether he should not return. he has accomplished all that he can in college football and helped LSU more than enough financially and prestige wise. time to look out for the future of your family.

Exactly. Matthieu didn't give a frick, he knew he was a lock for a late first or early second round pick.

Leonard Fournette wants to play football. Not sit out a year. He'd come out if his skin waiting a year. In the event his career was ever cut short due to injury, the big, humble man wouldn't have to look far for lucrative employment in the state of Louisiana.

eta-did Adrian Peterson take his Jr season off? No. He played, got injured 4-5 game in and still was a sought after prospect.

They've played a whole 3 games this year and we're already talking about next year?

It would be tragic if he got hurt playing for free when he is worth millions today.

I can't believe the 3 year rule is still in place. It's plainly exploitative.

He will get over a million dollar insurance policy. That's standard.

No, but he did break his collarbone that year and that kept him out for the season.

The NFL owners have EVERY right to make up their own rules for their PRIVATELY owned organization. You disagree with that?
