because he decided he was going to go nuts as a disciplinarian
i don't even think he was that strict. he just wasn't letting the players do whatever they wanted like mack

he's rebuilding the team
basically you're arguing that UT should have hired a laid back coach to try and replicate mack's 6-8 win regular seasons instead of trying to rebuild the program to attempt to reach higher peaks. that's just ridiculous

Texas looked pretty good, they had some terrible calls go against them. I saw improvement out of the team.

Arguing AGAINST discipline is sort of hypocritical for an Aggie, no?

quote:no I'm not. I'm saying he inherited a team that he could have won with. He kicked it all off and now is trying to say he didn't inherit talent because mack brown destoyed the program. That's bullshite

Mack left some talent but there was virtually none along the OL (hence two freshmen starting) and DT (besides Malcolm Brown). Really poor team on the lines.
As for players Strong kicked off, many had failed multiple (3-5) drug tests under Mack and then failed at least two under Strong when they knew what was expected and when they were coming. Couple others were indicted for a very serious sexual assault. One threatened a coach. Nobody is missing any of those guys. Believe me when I say that although there was some talent, it was a net positive to lose them.
This year was going to be tough. 2016 needs to show evidence of competing for the conference title or then the seat will be hot in 2017. Caveat - if we go 2-10 then all bets are off.

So a dumb unsportsmanlike penalty was the kids fault? When TCU hammers them, the administration will see how far the gap is between them and the Frogs. Texas has 10 times the enrollment of TCU and Baylor and Taj Mahal facilities. A bunch of idiots here said it wasn't Muschamp's fault that Driskel was throwing picks either. Look what happened to him. Strong is way over his head in Austin. Don't give me the cycle garbage

the only reason stays is because they do not have an AD. that may take more than a few months to hire.
If Texas wants to prove it is not run by greedy a-hole boosters then it will allow the next AD to come in and pick the next HC.

I don't think Charlie ever said Mack destroyed the program.

First thing's first for this team, Heard provides them with a semblance of hope on offense. Now that hope might be faint, but it's something to latch on to. Their offense being run by Watson compared to Norvell is like night and day, same goes for Heard and Swoopes. Their offense can actually put up a fight now compared to last year and this year's ND game.
Defensively is where they've taken a major step back, and that's gotta do with really poor depth and tons of youth at key positions. Malik Jefferson, while he's played well, is gonna look like a freshman more often than not...but you see the potential.
Their hiring of Brick Haley is doing them no favors as well, as the DL performance thus far is seriously poor. It'll get worse once they realize that his recruiting results will mirror his line's on-field performance.
I work with more than a few horn alum that know Strong is behind the 8 ball here, but progress is being made...just not as much as they'd hoped for.
Their next 2 games will be brutal, with TCU and OU looking to put up major points against Bedford's defense. Their only saving grace is that both defenses they are facing are very vulnerable to what Heard does well.
Lose both and they're 1-5 without having played Baylor or Tech - both of which will light up their defense like a goddamn xmas tree.

I saw some dumb coaching antics/decisions, and watched player after player quit before the play was over, sometimes leading to more yards for OK State.
My faith in Strong and his staff's coaching abilities was severely shaken Saturday.

This is what is going to happen. The Seahawks are about to nosedive. We are already seeing some cracks. The franchise is going to implode when the Legion of Boom disappears over the next two years. Charlie Strong serves his purpose by doing enough to revamp the culture of the Longhorn program from one of entitled indolence and complacency to a program that has hunger, but it's not enough to keep his job in 2017.
Meanwhile, Carroll, who is older and disillusioned with his franchise and the NFL, but is not ready to hang it up just yet, is attracted by the money UT offers as well as the opportunity of rebuilding a program of Texas' caliber. Pete Carroll helps restore Texas to national prominence in his last run at coaching. Anyone who disagrees with this prophecy is playing with fire because I'll bookmark any disagreement posts and link them in a thread in 18 months.

quote:I feel bad for ST/TE coach Jeff Traylor, he is a good dude, won 3 state titles at Gilmer High in the last 12 years. I was hoping for him to have success on the college level, but maybe UT wasn't the best job to take right now.
and then for the second week in a row, they lost on a FAIL on a routine special teams play.

They should have hired Art Briles.
