I must have been a little to drunk in the game to remember this hit live, but when going back and watching a few times I still am having trouble seeing this as "Targeting"

Now i could see a personal foul for hitting to high on a QB given that the rules are out there to protect QB's.

I just didnt think it was a hit worthy of an ejection.

What say the rant?

He left his feet and had time to pull off the hit after the ball was thrown.
Tight call. But it was a fair call.

have seen that kind of hit go uncalled for years and years, usually is just a good hit on the qb.

nowadays, you pretty much have to aim for the qb's torso in order for it to be legal, and if you completely launch yourself, it'd be targeting too, as the qb would be deemed defenseless.

Maybe I am wearing purple glasses but I see that hit all the time.

Tight? Yes. Ejection? No way.

He left his feet and hit the side of Johnson's helmet with his shoulder pad. That was a legit call and I'd want that call if someone did the same to Harris.

It wasn't helmet-to-helmet, but he did appear to launch his shoulders into JJ's neck/head

It was an above the shoulder hit. So as the rule reads, it was the right call. That said, the rule as it reads is horse shite and should be edited.

It was a stupid play on Jones part. Hopefully he learns from it.

Based on the letter of the law/rule it's pretty clearly targeting and ejection is the punishment. He led with his head/shoulders and kinda left his feet too.

But I'm sure Bama gets away with this all the time.

Because of the data indicating how many football players are having brain issues later in life I believe it might be time to remove hitting as part of the game. The purpose of a defense is to stop the advancement of the football. Sound tackling works well stopping advancement of the football. Football fans now applaud the violence associated with hard hitting. It might be time to eliminate hard hitting for health and safety reasons.

Most definitely was worthy. He launched towards the head. No brainer.

It's the result of the QB and all the linemen can cross the line of scrimmage before the throw play.

It's the right call by the rules, but I'm convinced that's what you're going to see come out of that play.

It was a hit to the head. Easy call.

call was correct but the rule is dumb, should not be an ejection or suspension. 15 yards max.

It wasn't a dirty hit, and it wasn't a particularly hard hit. He clearly led with the shoulder to the chest. But in the movement of the play there was high contact. It's close. I wouldn't have called it, but no one asked me to officiate. Can't really complain when the call can go either way. What is clear, however, is that it wasn't dirty and was clearly not intended to injure anyone.
