I have nothing but respect for Brees as a player, but we need players. While Brees still has value to a team that needs a quarterback (Kansas City?), we should trade him if the price is right. This would also give Brees a shot to win big somewhere else. We do not have big play receivers. We do not have a young quality tight end. Our offensive line is bad. Armstead and Unger seem to be good players, but Strief is at the end of the line. Evans has been bad for several years (do not tell me about the Pro Bowl crap). We do not have a pass rush at all. Trade Byrd or reach a settlement. The most obvious move is the most painful, but it makes the most sense.

He's injured, and even admitted in the post game presser that it hasn't been right for a while.

His value is plummeting.

Teams that need a QB imo:
-Dallas (Romo injured)
-Philly (so far Bradford has been horrible.)
-Houston

Not sure what we would get from trading Brees to any three of those teams... If we could somehow get Watt out of Houston that would be crazy, but I doubt it ever happens. Hell, I doubt we ever trade Brees.

Should have traded him before this season leading to the draft. There was no sense in going into rebuilding mode and keeping a high trade value QB way into the backside of his career.

Missed opportunity.

What's Brees' value? A second rounder?

Part of me agrees, but I don't know. I'd like to see a new coach get a shot with Brees but I know Payton ain't going anywhere. And if we trade him for picks with Payton and Loomis in charge, they'll just frick those picks up.

Bree's looked really bad but he had NO protection. Defense sucked arse in the 1st half as well. Really poor game overall but, Gettin rid of #9 is not the answer. Let's start with tackling, routes, blocking etc. Bree's might be in his sunset but he's still got at least this season left. He needs an Omline to give him time.

No one is going to pick up that contract with the way he's playing.

I said this during the game and got ridiculed.

It needs to happen.

Brees has been awesome for New Orleans, but we're not in a position to compete even with him.

Let's not ride Brees of into the sunset playing on a garbage team full of UDFAs.

Our cap is fcked up and the next year or 2 will be a rebuild.

He has value. Don't question that. A team would trade for him and extend him to relieve that cap hit next year.

We have a 0% chance of winning another championship with Brees (even if it's of no fault of his own - we suck). We should start trying to build a team to compete in the future.

I've checked back on the board a few times since the end of the game. You know how you get a "new" next to a new thread. Every single one of those times I have seen a new thread with this exact title.

Why not keep it in one thread?

Brees costs too much for this team to be competitive as long as he's on it.

It was a great run, but it's over. Trading him at least gets us something of value in return.

Maybe Dallas would listen...

I don't think the Saints need to trade him. The problem with the Saints deals more with the expectation of Brees. Brees is not the same QB he was 6 years ago. There are things he can no longer do. The play calling has become too predictable, not so much on 1st down, but 2nd down. If they run on 1st down, they will pass on 2nd down, and vice versa. They will pass on 3rd down. It doesn't matter if it's 3rd and 1 or 3rd and 9. The Saints believe Brees is still the best chance for a win. The real problem, is Payton and Brees are addicted to the passing game. No matter what they say, or what they do, the Saints will always rely on the pass. They also need to realize that Robinson is a better back than Ingram. They made too many moves this off season because they said they wanted to get back to running the ball. Rob Ryan's defense is not working. The players can not operate under that defense. He needs to run a 4-3, with 2 DB's, a Safety and a free safety, instead of some hybrid 3-4.

So what do you think we'll get for a 36 y/o QB with a reconstructed throwing shoulder and a bruised rotator cuff????
