This is America. Do what you want.

i can't imagine that would be cost effective. Your average backyard pond requires a shite ton of maintenance and you probably would need to do more for something that you are going to eat.

If only this were true anymore.

it would be cheaper in the long run to just buy some traps, buy a boat and set the traps out in the spillway.
Or just buy a sack or 2 when you want to boil them.

I've got one where we keep our cows. It didn't go to well...
I stocked it 2 years ago, and trapped twice this year just to see what was in there.
Sampling to see what was in there...
Traps
Couple more I could have a crawfish cocktail...

Raise some marron crawfish in a big rubbermaid tank. They are like giant freshwater lobster.

If you are really serious in starting a crawfish pond, dig up a section about 1-2 acres big and make it about 2-3 feet deep. You need to set up a drain so you can control the water depth. Plant the field with rice and stock each acre with atleast 2 sacks of crawfish. They will get fat on the rice stalks. Should be able to harvest quite a few sacks if you provide food and keep the damn commorants, egrets, raccoons away.

Like others have said, you are better off with a boat, traps, and thee spillway. Are you looking for personal use or selling some? Because to start a pond cost quite bit when you add in the pump, levees, drainage, and stocking it.

They are pretty tasty.
Ive been thinking about raising some, but won't, cause I'm too lazy.

Are you asking for our permission? Because I vote no.
