A couple of years ago, I saw a snake hopping across the road. He would throw his front half up in the air and lunge forward. It took him about two seconds to get across. This was on 71 just before the junction with 190 near Krotz Springs.

I was traveling about 5 miles north of there one day. Something was causing turtles to cross the road from east to west. Thousands of them, and the road was covered with crushed turtles because they were impossible to avoid.

Obligatory "swoopeda"

Now that that's out the way, I swear I saw a ring-tail lemur cross Hwy 22 east of Ponchatoula in high school.

There's a crepe myrtle by my office growing within the tubular pole for a stop sign. The trunk runs up the entire length and it pops out at the top and a few of the holes.

Bubble net feeding by humpback whales. Amazing cooperative feeding technique.

Boating down a side canal and see this large wake being pushed up in front of us. The closer we got the faster and larger the wake got. No body parts out of water. Ended up being a large gator (8-10') swimming with a 3-4 footer cross ways in his mouth. He was pushing such a huge wake we had all kinds of crazy ideas on what it could be. Felt bad though, he finally let go of the smaller gator and dove down to get away.

I watched a cat squirrel push a box turtle shell about 50 ft up a water oak into his nest. He chewed on it for a while, making a ton of noise, then it fell out the nest. He crawled down the tree, used one hand and his mouth to hold onto the shell, kinda pushing that thing up the tree. He must have dropped it 10 times, but he finally got it back into the nest and went to chewing on it again. Damndest thing I'd ever seen.

4:30 AM and the sun was bright, it was July, snow was falling, and the mosquitoes were fierce at Prudhoe Bay. Surreal.

The Alaska/Canada border. For some reason the trees are cleared at the border to mark it, even in wilderness. Seems idiotic.

Here is a link to a thread that has been active for I think 15 years or so that contains many very interesting stories about weird experiences while out in the woods.

Warning: This thread is very addictive and entertaining. It may take you a long time to get through, but I promise you, you will enjoy it.

LINK

I linked to the 24th page of thread, be sure to go back to the beginning of the thread.

Oh, and it's only about 8-9 years old.

Manatee at the regoletts l n l train bridge about ten years ago when I was fishing with some high school buddies (17years ol) rose up right next to our boat.. We freaked out didn't know what the hell we saw..we had that express skint back getting out of there within seconds

30 dead cows around a tree all on there backs with legs straight up..in New Mexico saw them from about 1/2 mile away and it looked like the were all worshipping the sun got closer and saw they were dead told the farmer and he was pissed said he had been all over the mountains looking for them and said they must have huddled under the tree and gotten struck by lightning then swollen up in the sun and rolled over..crazy looking shite wish I'd taken a picture

came upon an old house out in the woods when I was a kid and it had a horse skeleton on the inside. Sucks to think that the horse got in somehow and couldn't get out and died

Was fishing at the dope boat in Black Bay, when something nailed my buddy's bait and I saw a flash a silver out of the corner of my eye. Couple believe it when that six foot Tarpon jumped again. 15 minutes later it was in the boat.

Was on one of those 4-day Chandeleur Island trips out of Gulfport. I liked exploring the northern islands, so I had my buddy drop me off on one of the islands while he went and fished open water with the other boats. I was walking the shoreline in some shallow water and came across a group of hermit crabs - at least 2 or 3 dozen together in one spot.. If you walked around the area, you'd see plenty more hermit crabs walking in toward that spot from every direction. I can only guess that there was a female putting out pheromones or something and males were heading in from all around the area. Or it was one big hermit crab orgy and they all wanted to join the party.

Anytime I see a fish swimming "sideways" now, I know a snake is attached....and NOT to pull it out with a net.
