And he was showing me before and after pics of his "summer weight gain". Gotta say, the kid looks pretty damn big compared to last season. Also, he said that Brandon has been spending a fair amount of time getting to know and being mentored by Terry Bradshaw. Not that that means anything, but I found it pretty interesting. Anyways, just figured I'd share!

Happy Monday, folks.

18-20 lbs of muscle is nothing to snuff your nose at.
That's significant weight gain for a kid with his build/activity level.

Terry Bradshaw is dumb like a fox. He's one of the smartest people to play QB, and he's played up the country bumpkin act to a successful TV career after his playing days. If you get past the "dumb hillbilly" stuff and listen to him talk about football, he has a great deal of football insight.

Just because someone didn't do well in the classroom, which Bradshaw admits he didn't have the ACT to attend LSU, doesn't make them dumb. There are book smarts and street smarts.

He had no choice but to go this route though. Bradshaw was on the road to being a bust & was on the verge of being run out of Pittsburgh. The transition from college to the pros was tough for him & it forced Chuck Noll into benching him numerous times. It caused him to fall into depression which he tried to drown in alcohol.

Yet somehow he fought through it all & the light bulb eventually came on for him. He very much had a love/hate relationship with the Pittsburgh fans which only recently has begun to change. He did carry over the country bumpkin personality over to TV though since it worked so well him in his playing days.

You should've told him that his brothers uncles son assistant coach is spreading some nasty rant rumors about his son being dumb and see his thoughts

Bradshaw is not and never has been dumb. he had a learning disability (common these days) that went undiagnosed in his day. he also never gave a damn that people thought he was dumb and played the country boy schict (sp) to his benefit.

I am glad to see him take an interest in Brandon Harris and hope it develops into a friendship. I also hope even more he can help the LSU QB become a star.

Bradshaw (yes, LA Tech but Shreveport area native) laying some advice on him isn't a bad idea. He was known, for a while, as having a bad attitude both in CFB and then reverted in the NFL. He got an attitude adjustment from Chuck Noll; no one gave Noll crap.

So Bradshaw has done the "been there, done that" and has lots of wisdom about being focused and having a PMA. Not saying BH has that bad of an attitude, but some re-focusing couldn't hurt.

And the 20lbs of muscle ain't a bad idea either. If anything can tell the kid has been getting after it. Maybe a hint of that focus I mentioned.

This is absolutely false. Bradshaw admits he dealt with depression & anxiety during his playing days. He has also openly talked about how much he was upset at how the Steelers fans treated him early in his career.

quote:

Bradshaw has always fought to be accepted. When he first got into broadcasting he was worried about his credibility. He admitted to a rough beginning.

"I was lousy," he said.

But first as a game and studio analyst for CBS, then as a two-time Emmy winning studio analyst for Fox, Bradshaw again bucked the odds.

quote:

What makes Bradshaw's career all the more remarkable is, even during his unrivaled run with the Steelers, he suffered from a near-crippling bout of clinical depression.

Bradshaw, who was diagnosed with the illness in 1999, said he believed he suffered depression throughout most of his playing career.

He said the disorder -- a chemical imbalance in the brain that can cause pervasive, persistent bouts of sadness and hopelessness -- led him to feel spiraling emotional lows even after such euphoric events as winning a Super Bowl. He said he believed his depression was a major contributor in his three failed marriages. And until his diagnosis, he was frustrated that he could not pinpoint the reason for his constant melancholy.

"It overwhelms you," Bradshaw said. "Depression takes a toll on you because you are always so up-and-down. You feel like happiness might never happen to you again. I was so glad when I finally was told what was wrong."

quote:

"When the reporters started saying I was dumb and stupid, it was the most painful thing I ever went through in my life,” Bradshaw said. “But, I decided to take the high road and put it into humor. I took it and made a living out of being stupid.”

quote:

Bradshaw says the days in Pittsburgh were hard because of everyone getting on him so much. He said even when he played well, they would say things like, “not bad for dumb guy.” He said it was painful and hard to deal with, but his ability to make fun of himself lead to many other opportunities including a record deal with Nashville that he got after making a $100 bet with a friend that he could get a record deal.

quote:

“There were so many defining moments. I was in and out of the lineup for five years and I was demanding to be traded,” Bradshaw said. “I didn’t understand the coach. I wonder why was the city so hateful to me. I never understood it all.”

Bradshaw said he always felt like he was never appreciated here, but he was tough and he learned how to survive.

“I had to get tough mentally to survive and I did and I am very proud of myself for being able to handle all of that stuff,” Bradshaw said. “So, in the end, it’s now fun and games.”

Bradshaw said it still hurts him to think how some of the fans were, but he has chosen to move on and turn his life around. He admits it wasn’t easy.

“It was a struggle, I would just go with it and say, ‘Why the hell do you say that about me? I did my job,'” Bradshaw said. “I’m not a guy who looks over his shoulder. I don’t look back. I move on. It does no good to stand in quick sand and look over my shoulder.”

In '66 you didn't need to take the ACT to get into LSU, you just needed a high school diploma. He just wanted to go to Tech.
