We plan on spending the night, and don't really have a solid plan yet. So walking is an option, and venturing to different parts of town is also an option.
And we're going the first weekend of October

Go to the WW2 Museum. Eat lunch at Cochon. Grab dinner at Peche, or if you want fancy, go with Herbsaint, Emeril's, or Gautreau's.

Also I've found Jacques Imo's Cafe which seems to have a plethora of good reviews. I know it's not a fancy place but it looks nice for a fun experience and good fun. Any suggestions on this?

Do the touristy stuff in October. Great time for a day in NOLA.
Walk around the FQ.
Stop at Pat O's for a hurricane on the patio.
Check out Jackson Square and the artwork.
Get some beignets at Cafe Du Monde.
Stop by Acme for some Chargrilled oysters. If there is a line, walk across the street to Felix's.
Check out some of the happy hour specials at the Brennan restaurants like Palace Cafe, Bourbon House, and Dickie Brennan's steakhouse.
Have a late dinner at Domenica.
Go see Jeremy Davenport at the Ritz for more upscale or go down to Frenchman for some live music for more casual.
Go to Commander's in the AM for jazz brunch.
